Condensation

Featured Replies

Inside my Fabia Elegance is always running with condensation particularly on the inside of the windscreen. This means that on days like today I have to scrape the ice from inside as well as the outside. Does anyone have any clues what might cause this? All of the door seals and boot seals are good. Its an 06 car with only 45k on the clock. Could this be something to do with the aircon? I'm not using that in the winter of course. I don't think this is a weather thing because my Octavia, parked next to it, is as dry as a bone.

All advice gratefully received

Leave your Air Con on permanently, that's what I do.

Not sure if you mean the rubber door seals? Water doesn't usually get in there,  it's the seals around the metal door carriers behind the door trim panels that are notorious for leaking.

If there are no leaks or damp patches in the car try cleaning your windows and applying some RainX Anti Fog

Check and re-check for leaks though as it's not the door seals themselves that leak most of the time as said above. Plus the carpets on the Fabia are quite thick so sometimes it takes a while for a damp patch to appear.

I have same problem in my skoda fabia.

in the same parking place they are many cars, but mine it full of condens inside ?

now i use magic bools they suck the humidity from inside car, but still it is not enugh.

eny ideea is welkomed???         ps not likaje from outside

I only ever had similar when my door carrier seals were leaking. There's almost certainly water in there somewhere. On a similar note, have you tried changing the pollen filter?

Thank you  for fast answer

I wil change the polen filter and check again if it is watter licage somewhere.

thank you Michael

I have the same issue, ordered some car dehumidifier bag things while i hunt for the issue because it's REALLY annoying.

Going to rip everything out of the car to see if i can feel dampness anywhere, floor is always dry and so are the doors, filters have all been changed, more of a hunt for it that anything now.

It's worth checking the rear windscreen washer pipe as it can leak into the car, although I suppose you'd probably smell the fluid. The connection is behind the side trim at the back seat.

Yeah, leaks onto the electrics.

Yeah, leaks onto the electrics.

Rotted through it on mine

I cut the connectors off the washer pipe and sleeved them all with some good fitting rubber pipe. I just make sure the screenwash is a good strength in winter. At least I now have no crappy pipe connectors to pop off.

Happy New Year to everyone. Could someone elaborate on the quote above? I'm not quite clear where these seals are. Would this result in water inside the door?

Michael

Link to film for carriers

Tendency to leave air direction knob facing down to floor, on leaving car outside overnight.

Air-con turned on with air direction to the screen for a few minutes before driving off helps with condensation on inside of screen.

If in a hurry, I use wiper blade on reverse side of snow scraper to clear condensation from inside windscreen, drips land on dashboard, but hey, I'm in a hurry..LOL

Happy New Year Michael.

It's normal for water to get inside the door via gaps in the seal with the movable glass, but intended that it drains straight out again through some holes along the bottom, which lead harmlessly outside the car. However, due to an unfortunate feature inside the door (see post #3 here) some of the water doesn't make it to the bottom of the door, but runs instead down the inside surface of the so called ancillaries carrier, a metal plate bolted or riveted to the inner side of the door, visible once the doorcard is removed.

The seal between this metal plate and the door is unable to resist a stream of water indefinitely, and fails, causing water to run down inside the car. It lands initially on top of the rubber seal at the bottom of the doorway, and then runs down between that and the plastic trim it butts up against, under the carpet and sound insulation beneath it.

Diagnosis is simple, if you open any of the doors and see little puddles like this on the rubber seal:

Your ancillaries carrier seal has failed on that door.

PS to anyone who cares: please feel free to use this picture if you want to illustrate this symptom to others, save it, re-host it, whatever you like. :)

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I have puddles just like those in the pic above. Problem identified!

Just one more thing......Is it possible to get a replacement seal for the door panel or is mastic the only answer?

I don't know what Skoda would offer to sell you if you asked, but to fit any sort of replacement seal there you'd have to take the ancillaries carrier right off, which most people don't want to do, especially on later cars where it's riveted. The original seal is a flimsy foam rubber affair, which you really wouldn't want to replace like-for-like.  The design, with fairly widely spread fasteners doesn't really lend itself to any sort of reliable gasket/seal, Plumber's Gold really is the way to go. Just take your time cleaning/degreasing the surfaces you want it to stick to, and lay it on thick and wide.

I'm sure skoda themselves just silicone it up don't they?

Yes they do.
