What's been your most important journey (mines prob tomorrow)

Featured Replies

All things being equal, will be taking the vRS and my three yr old daughter to pick up my wife and our brand new 3 day old daughter and bring them home from hospital for ready for new year. (Had to go into hospital in our cr-v as the vRS was a tad harsh whilst wife had contractions on Monday morning).

Hence made me wonder if this is the most important journey I'll have made to date!?

Picking up my first car (Fabia)

Getting from Mid Wales to Watford in 3 hours to say goodbye to my Grandpa

Sent from my Galaxy S5

Driving from Peterborough to Cheltenham in the middle of the night in time to say Goodbye to my Dad who had had a major stroke.

Sadly, I didn't make it as he died about 20 minutes before I got to the Hospital, although I spent the next 15 years telling Mum that I had in fact made it in time.

Taking my unconscious 3-year-old daughter to hospital when she had fallen out of a bedroom window.  We were on Jersey where the maximum speed limit is/was 40 and I was at double the limit for part of the journey (in a Cavalier SRi).  Fortunately there was no lasting ill effect from the fall.  The car used tells you how long ago that was.

Probably bringing Samuel home for the first time.

Or taking the car to Bergerac airport for our first family holiday and being very aware that I had to be there at a set time to met Mrs H and Samuel off the plane.

I've had loads, taking my wife to hospital to give birth, my new born baby having breathing difficulties and my wife have a post natal haemorrhage and loading well over a pint of blood. It's not cleaver to speed however when your family is involved you don't think straight and you don't really care about anything other than getting there. All of which were in my mazda 6, perhaps I shouldn't be trying to sell it since it's seen me through so many family emergencies.

Congratulations Exeterj!   Now your VRS becomes a proper family car.

My most important and poignant journey?   Living in Chippenham, Wiltshire my mother had cancer and was in Lewisham Hospital in South London.   As we went to bed at 11.30 pm, I received a phone call from the hospital to say mum had "taken a turn for the worse".   Asking if I should come up there, the ward sister said "No, we'll phone again if anything develops further."

140 miles away, my brother had been told exactly the same thing - mum's condition had deteriorated but no need to worry!

I tossed and turned in bed and at 1.00 am, I decided I had to drive up there - up the M4, round the South Circular Road and parked on the road outside the hospital, arriving at about 2.30 am.   As i walked into the ward, who should stride in 5 minutes later, but my brother who had had the same strong urge as myself that we should be there!   Mum died shortly after 4.00 am.

Ever since, I have wondered if there is a powerful, maternal bond that is almost telepathic!

Any hatched/matched/dispatched story would be the obvious answer.

Personally, it would be helping to bring my little boy into this world.

Congratulations and enjoy your journey today. Happy New Year

Mine was also bringing home our baby son for the first time. Never driven so carefully in my whole life lol!

Taking my mum and dad from cannock in West mids to Chelsea in London to see my uncle (mum's brother) who was on life support suffering from copd on Xmas eve. Did the 90mile journey in my bora 130pd in little over an hour.

Hope your uncle's condition is improving.   Christmas is always a terribly sad time for families with a sick relative.

Sorry didn't make that clear. That was back in 2009. He passed away in January 2012 from the very same condition. 60 years of smoking did it (started aged 12) hence why I've never touched a fag.

Pretty much got back in not much more time on Xmas morning as the m40 was that quiet I thought I'd missed the road closed signs!

Sadly, a familiar story!   I started on the fags at 14 and it took me 26 years and quite a few attempts to stop!   No wonder the First World War soldiers referred to them as "coffin nails!"

In the vrs it was driving to assist/witness at my homebirth middle of 2014. In the old octy (in 2012) it was driving my best friend to the hospital while she was in labour. In 2009 it was racing home from work as I had been told my house was on fire and I knew the dogs were inside.

mine was my dad driving not me.

But after open heart surgery i had a 1 hour drive back from the hospital

the build up was my mum and dad noting pot holes in the week before when they came to see me in hospital, having a pillow on the seat, back rest and between me and the seatbelt, the car in comfort mode, and my 30yr experienced police advanced driver dad being smoother than hes ever been!  ..i think id have been in tears if they were in my lowered fabia!! haha
