does anyone know the length of new brushes for my Fabia diesel the old ones have about 7 mm left on them i would have thought that would be enough ?

That's plenty, it's usually the regulator/rectifier assembly contained within the brush pack that fails first.

Yes, it contains the brushes, the regulator, the rectifier and the load sensor, a brand new one is about £18 on ebay. I paid £25 to have a new one fitted, tested and guaranteed for a year. It should be a 90A Bosch alternator, pretty much all Fabs use the same alty.

 

Have you checked the pulley on yours if you're having problems, they commonly play up.

not sure off the top of my head its off a vrs 2005 pd130 90amp maybe?

Remember to force the spacers across a bit before fitting a secondhand alternator as that makes them easier to get back on to the car. Alternator on daughter's late 2009 Ibiza failed a month or so ago, at around 35K miles - made in South Africa, though I think that it was a regulator assembly failure and they all seem to get made in UK!!! Because of the age of the car, I "invested" in a genuine Bosch rebuild from ECP - that alternator was made in Spain and was a genuine VAG item.

just fitted a new regulator assembly no joy any other ideas ???

right really confused now? removed new regulator then tested both the wires from the D plug off the back of the alternator for continuity all the way up to were they enter the car they tested OK       re-fitted the old regulator and started the car expecting to see the light on and now its gone and charging ????? is there any chance of something sticking somewhere a relay ??
