Build weeks and order codes

Featured Replies

Would someone please help me out understanding how the Skoda ordering system goes?

I ordered my Octy 3 in October and during conversations with the dealer and reading threads here I was under the impression that once an order was placed it would follow a series of 'codes', one of these was when a provisional build week was given by Skoda and passed on to the dealer who in turn advised their customer. The customer then had a short time in which to make minor changes to his order, as when the next code was issued the build was locked in to what was ordered.

As said car ordered in October with a 'guessed' delivery around Feb/March 2015, but 'I would be kept up to date with the state of my order.'

I had a call from the dealer at the beginning of Jan about another matter and was suddenly told my car was to be built in week 3 and was locked in, so no chance to make even a minor change. The odd thing was just before Christmas the salesman called to wish us a Happy Christmas and said there was no info on my order on his screen. Over Christmas Skoda was I would think closed as were the factories but on the 2nd Jan the dealer had a confirmed build week.

I have read many posts where the dealer had contacted the customer and kept them fully informed all the way through to taking delivery.

Do Skoda advise the dealer and is it usual for the dealer to advise their customers and so give them the opportunity to make sure the order is as they want? or is it normal to go from original order and then only advise the customer when the order is locked in to be built?

Unless you are on the case of your dealer the first thing you will know is usually when you get a provisional build week. This can happen at any time and doesn't really mean a lot, provisional build weeks sometimes stay as they are, move a few weeks either way or disappear completely!

This then normally gets confirmed 1 week before the car is built.

The dealer doesn't get any other updates, and sometimes it goes straight to a confirmed build week, especially when they rejig the production around factory closures.

Thanks Andy.

I did not get any notification of a provisional build week, no news for 9 weeks then its suddenly all done and dusted.

I am still happy with my choices but would have swopped one for the Canton system.

This is week one and the car is due to be built in week 3 so I should be able to change the order this week.......... seeing the dealer this morning so will see what they say.

Just had conformation that my vRS I ordered in week 49 is being built in week 4 17/01/2015 so should be with me end of February. I think that the dealer may have altered a pre ordered car to suit my spec. Anyway looking forward to seeing it.

Kind regards.

How does the build week work.....my car is being built week 2  12/1/2015 is this correct. If yours is being built week 4 is that 26/1/2015 ?.

That does make sense, I'm sure he said 17th but 19th would be the beginning of the week and as you say 19th looks like week 3. Not too sure.

Back in December I was given build week 2 and when I checked the status with the dealer yesterday I was told that the car was in Emden waiting on the boat.

Ordered early October, was given a week 3 build in early Jan and had a call today to say my car had been built so that was spot on. Dealer to advise later this week or next week any news on shipping. I'm in no hurry as it will not be registered until I am satisfied that all as it should be, no resonance, rattles, squeaks, suspension creaks etc. Also will be registered 1st March for new reg'

Dealer problems have take the 'shine' off somewhat so hope there are no further problems with them (or the car!)

HI, Ordered my new Octavia VRs Saloon on Friday 24 November, told it will be ready for March 1st so I can swap the Qashqai on 28 February at the end of the PCP.

Had a message from the Dealer (Bristol St, Derby) today, Build Stage 10 - Order confirmed.

They didn’t know of any delays - 10-12 weeks Showroom-Factory-Showroom is standard for most of the range but VAG have a supply problem with the 1.4 TFSi engine which can be in excess of 20 weeks.
