Replacement front springs

Featured Replies

Morning, I checked my front suspension last night after hearing some creaking and twanging sounds, and it seems I have a snapped front spring.

What's the best way to go about replacing both front springs; do I go for used springs or is it a new springs jobbie?

If so where is best (and cheapest) to get replacements from?

Cheers in advance

If you can afford it buy a new set own and you will notice how bad your old stuff is!! They sag over time

whats the cost for new standard springs? I've seen some apex lowering springs for front and rear, anyone had any experience with these?

Most peoples experience with lowering springs isn't good. H&R are the best, but even they aren't great on standard shocks. TPS are your best bet for OEM springs. Beware of buying aftermarket springs for a VRS as they often aren't correct.

What's a rough price gonna be from tps for standard?

after approx. 5 factory springs (SEAT)   I'm on Lesjofors     so far so good     Swedish spring makers ----I think they are at euro c'p'    and thro your local motor factor/accessory shop

After markets were £120 supplied only they were eibachs just pop your details in ecp website for an idea on price

I've seen the lesjofors advertised on fleabay, are they as good aa buying standard from tps??

Not heard anything terrible about Sachs but the H&r lowering kit its £147 on ecp

Pretty sure they are about £75 from TPS a piece

Cheers, not really sure what I'm looking for to be honest. Didn't really wanna pay more than £100 really as I've just spentried £240 on alternator and alternator cable.

Buy as pair also

they make springs with their name on   not some faceless contractor who does "the best price"   -----but I wouldn't buy off ebay  only someone you trust

Alright, where's gonna have the best quality from the likes of parkers, gsf or ecp? Can't really afford to spend more then £100? Are standard used a no-no?

I don't think you'll get anything for £100 at all, except perhaps a couple of used ones which could do the same and snap. You have to replace springs in axle pairs, so do not skimp and replace just one if you want the car to sit even. Also be aware the vRS has shorter springs than the rest of the range, so if you get the wrong ones your car will be higher at the front than back so ensure the springs are vRS specific.

What's the ball park figure im looking to pay if £100 isn't enough?

Cheers will have a go at them. Do you usually change anything else when changing springs?

You could do the topmounts and bearings whilst there too.

Am I correct in thinking these are what I need?
