How much to fit new Reverse Switch?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I've had the car in the stealers (long story, too busy to go to the Indy) to fit a new window motor and they said my reversing lights aren't working – my bad, I should check these things more often. I asked them to have a look, but only a quick look, not a full diagnostic for £80 or whatever, as I was thinking I can live without until I've got more funds and can go to the indy.

Anyway, they've said it's the reverse switch and will cost £173.62 to fit inc. VAT. The part apparently is £50 + VAT. Does this sound about right?

I was hoping it would be a couple of fuses, which it might still be I suppose depending on how trustworthy you think a Skoda dealer will be, but my reversing sensor(s) have been playing up for a while as well?

I'm going to wait to fix it but want to try fuses first so another couple of questions:

1. Is it easy to access the fuse box and fit the fuses (Top middle large fuse (#31) or the small fuse right above it (#7) I believe from another thread)?

2. Is it easy to fit a reversing switch?

Appreciate your help guys because this is the last thing I needed after Christmas, along with needing a new headlight unit and two new front tyres

Sounds steep to me. But it is a dealer?

This part went on out 05 polo. Cant remember the exact price but about £60 i think. The part was about £20-30 off the top of my head.

That was at a local garage. Maybe try shopping around?

I think it just screws into the gearbox but cant be sure

I thought it was just a plug-in unit on the gearbox as well, which might be tricky to get to, but 1.5 hours labour?

I'll see if any Superb owners have had the same thing. I've had a read around but found nothing concrete.

Thanks

Im not familiar with your car mate, it might be completely different, but on a polo/fabia it just unplugs and then unscrews. Screw the new one in, plug it back in and happy days

Isn't it just under the center console? Pushed by the gearstick when you push it down or push it sideways I believe? If so then the labor would only be an hour, It won't take that long to take  bit of trim off and remove a switch.

Not sure about the superb but its under the bonnet on the polo iirc

Our local VW/SEAT/Skoda Service centre in Camberly does a Fixed Price on everything and has a reputation locally for fair and honest trading.   Why not give them a ring and ask them how much it would be to supply and fit?

We are in the South-East so our prices tend to be a bit higher than elsewhere in the country.   The price Camberley tell you will let you know if your dealer's estimate is way out or not.

Got one for my old cordoba for 20 is euro a few yr back, fitted myself for free... I presume it's nigh on the same on skodas. Only problem i had was finding it was the switch cable had corroded off the switch, rather than the switch failing.... its really not a hard job, unplug, spanner/ vice grip to unscrew, insert new one and tighten up, plug back in...
