Vrs tuning

Featured Replies

I've been in 2 minds for months over whether to bite the bullet and get my car mapped. Got a new intercooler sat waiting to be installed, but at the back of my mind I'll always be worried that something will go bang very prematurely. Now I'm 22 (today! :)) my insurance, even with modifications is good, so that's not a worry anymore. That's why I wanted to know how many miles people had done in these cars with or without a map.

Also, if it is being remapped, is it worth getting a forge diverter/recirculate valve and new hoses (I think that's what they're called?) if you're running increased boost levels?

Thanks

That reminds me of a poster that pop's up from time to time, at first wanting advice about a potential purchase that never went through, but now just sticks around making un-helpful posts...... Oh wa

Suspension, tyres and brake tuning will get you on to the straight bits faster, imo the standard engine has enough waft to warrant a better chassis set up so that's where I will spend my coin.

  • Not entirely true. There are tuners abroad that have tuned a few vRS Fabias and Cupras up to 300+ bhp with completely stock engines. I follow the owners closely and the cars run fine as "everyday" car

In what circumstances do you find your 180 BHP, 0 to 60 in 7.3 seconds Fabia vRS to be underpowered?

Do you regularly find yourself stuck behind a Midwife or an elderly Vicar on a bicycle?

Never said it was under powered, but well, more is always nice? :L

And, APR have got 20% off software at the moment so even harder to resist!

And thank you! :)

I would go with the APR Stage 1.

It is not going to shorten the life of your Twincharger which is given as a minimum 178 bhp /180 ps ( Not 180 bhp as vxh26 mentions.)

Often a standard CAVE on 99 ron is giving 183 bhp plus, so it is worth getting it on the Dyno before and after.)

The 205 + BHP available after a remap does not mean you must use it above NSL's in the UK,

or that any extra stresses are put on the Engine Components or Drivetrain, & greater economy can be achieved with the Remap.

Just be sure to use good Spark Plugs, Oil & Petrol & if it is a sound engine, then all should be good.

The other Mods are down to what you think are needed or you want to fit.

Vxh26 what are the reasons why he shouldn't have his car remapped?

maybe i am getting old.  But i used to always want 300bhp plus.  But my last few cars i have not felt the need.  Sure the Civic benefited from a map and few breathing mods, but even then they were never more than 250bhp, Never once did i think i need more power.

With the Fabia the 180bhp headline figure still does not tell the whole story.  Bar the exhaust which was purely for sound i won't be touching mine engine wise, it's quick enough as it is.

If i want more power i'll just buy a newer car with more power, Golf R or Cupra 280 leon keep winking at me.

Have you driven a run in CTHE.Twincharger?

Stage 1 or a TMC Tuning Box on a CAVE feels very much like a CTHE with minimum 180 PS as Skoda, Seat and VW left the figures at when they Revised the Engine & Engine Management late 2012.

Remember the A1 185ps with 183 bhp/185 ps minimum at launch feels very very much like the Sister cars with 180ps minimum until late 2012.

The remap transformed the car, I was shaking after putting my foot down for the first time after the change.

I'd love a Golf R or Cupra 280 Leon but something stopping me, I can't afford it.

I could most likely buy something else up to 10k which is quicker but it would have high mileage, be thirsty on fuel, cost more on insurance and tax, not be suitable when I'm working miles away from home and most likely would draw the wrong attention whilst park overnight on a fairly busy road.

Adding that extra bhp to what I can afford makes driving a whole more enjoyable. Obviously if some breaks then I'll be crying but that's the risk I take. If it melts a hole in a piston or starts to drink oil did the changes I've made have a part to play. Possibly not.

I'm pretty much the same... cant afford to spend more money.... and cant buy an older faster car, because I use mine for driving instruction too! I wouldn't be able to insure a golf R for that! :o (I love the new golf R, had a nosey round one, lovely car!) its hard enough insuring the vRS for it! lol... and its the part time driving lessons that pay for the car! kinda works out :)

Wow what a car to learn in!

With a vRS Hatch taking the Rear Ballast Weights off the Crash bar are a free mod,

and the spare wheel out, that is 45 KG removed.

Then the Battery moved from the engine compartment to the boot is not much of an expense.

Then set the suspension up to suit the cars corner weights as the Factory Engineers should have in the first place.

If I add poly bushes all round will it improve the handling or just give better feed back?

What kind of handling?

Is Lowering Springs & ARB, & good tyres not good enough handling on British Roads,

Change the Traction & Balance with Suspension Changes & weight distribution.

For the track, then choose your Poly Bushes well, as the Dampers & Springs.

I remember a thread on here talking about how good handling the Renault clio 182 is.

Personally I've never drove the car so can't stay, but is there such a difference between the handling between the VRS and a clio 182?

They are a world apart as standard.

I had one a few years ago, stuck to the road like glue.

Are you saying then that a mapped early fabia vrs feels the same as a later newer engine fabia vrs?? If so that is not true I have the early fabia mapped and my brother has a newer one which is standard and they are world's apart nothing like the same

I still haven't seen proof in the form of a rolling road where a standard CTHE engine is producing anymore than CAVE engine. The is one graph #109 in the slightly old thread now "MK2 Fabia vrs rolling road post your graphs" which gives reading of 191 - 193 but the person never confirmed if his car was standard or not. Surely there is someone who can put this debat to bed with a graph? Anyone?

What was the difference? Did the clio have a stiffer setup, balanced weight or just a better car?

every clio I have ever met on track has been overtaken by me ;)

sean85,

even all CTHE are not Mapped the Same from the factory September 2012 to 2014,

which is maybe why a few early ones failed.

I am not saying all CTHE feel like a Remapped or fitting with a TMC Tuning box CAVE does.

But i am saying some CTHE do, and i have driven some that do, but i have not driven yours or your brothers.

So who remapped your CAVE engine, and what age is your brothers CTHE?

I owned a CAVE car , with a TMC box, I had RR'd at 198bhp..... I did 50k in it, so knew it well, drove the ring , tracks , ect ect ...

new one (2013 CTHE) is definatley just as quick.... I would easily be able to tell.... I have also driven this round the ring, and other tracks I took the CAVE car too...... at blyton park I was overtaking the scoobys on the straight! guess I'm an 80's child and always thought scoobys were fast! lol.. :o (and the clio's ;) )

and yesterday i was driving a CTHE & tonight a CAVE Stage 1 and a bitty extra,

and tomorrow maybe a chance to drive a CTHE Remapped by someone in Aberdeen if weather allows.

oooh, we will have a chance to see what a mapped CTHE is like! do they have a quoted power for it George?

Nothing,

not been on a Dyno & the owner only has the word of the Dealer that sold it that is is Remapped so he asked me to give it a shotty and see.

ahhh I see. probably not mapped then, dealer probably drove it and though "thats quick" ....
