Vrs tuning

Featured Replies

When talking to them please ask if they have done a CTHE yet?

............

Re the one i was asked to drive up in Aberdeen that the owner thought was remapped was not actually.

What they were told by the Salesperson was,

"This has Skoda's latest Software Upgrades, which is makes it faster than the old ones".

So they thought that was a Remap it had.

That reminds me of a poster that pop's up from time to time, at first wanting advice about a potential purchase that never went through, but now just sticks around making un-helpful posts...... Oh wa

Suspension, tyres and brake tuning will get you on to the straight bits faster, imo the standard engine has enough waft to warrant a better chassis set up so that's where I will spend my coin.

  • Not entirely true. There are tuners abroad that have tuned a few vRS Fabias and Cupras up to 300+ bhp with completely stock engines. I follow the owners closely and the cars run fine as "everyday" car

Has anyone had a cthe remapped yet? Shark are the only people I have found able to do it so far, but I'm not sure there charged justifies the gain to 205 . I know you can't number hog at all with these things as it's about driveability and usable power, but you need to start somewhere.

If it is 25 bhp more than it might be worth as you will not get those gains by spending less. Plus should make it more responsive.

Judging by the other threads. Cthe engines produce closer to 190-195 as standard. So the 10-15 increase imo is not worth £500.

Topical view.

i'm stumbling over earlier posts here, but i've just been quoted and I quote this 'your worst case scenario is £4700' of which they've offered 80%. to be honest 'worst case scenario' means absolutely sweet F all. may I also add that my car started having problems at only 13,000 miles. by about 20,000 it was using 3 litres running completely standard.

even though i've had all these problems, if I could go back i'd not change anything cause the car is an absolute little beast. I'd absolutely love to tune mine up a little but then i'd just be completely stupid. Maybe if I get my new engine this decade i'll consider it. what do you guys think of 80%? think I could get the full whack in small claims court or not?

is your car out of warranty? if so 80% is much better than other owners have been offered!

You could try, but it all depends on the evidence you have, receipts of oil and accurate readings/oil usage figures you have taken.

well... it was out of warranty yes but as I said 13,000 miles on the clock.

well, the skoda dealer I was dealing with are no longer a skoda dealer, However... The guy I was dealing with said he's kept everything in terms of work they've done. I also imagine due to them no longer having a contract with skoda they can openly talk to me about my engine personally. I do have SOME of the receipts from when I realised it was a problem. i'm not doubting 80% is a great offer, but 80% of what? upto £4700 doesn't really give me much does it?

I hope this doesn't turn into another "engine replacement under warranty" thread. There are literally hundreds of them already.

It's a crappy position to be in, and the reason I recently traded mine in as it was out of warranty.

To be brutally honest, Skoda don't have to do or pay for anything as your car is now out of warranty and mileage is irrelevant.

But I gather you first reported problems when the car was still under warranty?

You are the second owner?

Did you raise a case with Skoda UK customer services or just through the dealer?

if it's any constellation, I first reported issues with my dark chrome gigaro wheels that were corroding. Long story short I got messed about for ages and the car slipped out of warranty. Skoda finally replaced all 4 wheels and honoured the claim as it were under warranty as I first reported the issue while the car was under warranty.

I hope this doesn't turn into another "engine replacement under warranty" thread. There are literally hundreds of them already.

Shoot,

sorry yes, I didn't realise this was a tuning thread.

Daz1412 - if you want to create a new thread about your situation so it doesn't take this one too off the rails.

When 'Shell V-Power Superunleaded changed to Shell V-Power Nitro Super Unleaded it became 99 ron minimum, not 98 Ron Minimum.

Interesting, shame no rolling road data posted.

Indeed. Might post and see if he had anything. Also worth watching for any issues.

Agreed. Without before and after runs on the same dyno it's almost useless for any comparison between typical stage 1 CAVEs. The "OMG-FEELS-SO-QUICK" statement is basically no different than what everyone who gets a remap says.

PS. Just noticed it's a REVO map, it now becomes interesting...

It is very interesting being a 62 plate Seat Ibiza Cupra 2013 (CTHE),  one of the very first Registered,

& it was having issues on start up,  because the first ones did.

Maybe why there was a delay in getting them out to customers.

So maybe a Remap is a good thing if it has not already had an ECU update in the past 2 years.

The question is whether CTHEs reach the same stage 1 figures as CAVEs or not. If they do, and given that they run 185-190 as stock more or less it kind of reduces the remap's benefit a bit >>> 10/35 = 30% less gain than CAVEs. That's why before and after runs would be nice.

Nice, so more power than the mapped cave engine. Deffo perked my interest

Stage 1 cave is 205? Please correct me if I am wrong. That revo link says the CTHE stage 1 is 218

The 205 I'm guessing is still a CTHE engine just the 160 PS module.

I believe that 160ps engine is the CAVD,  unless there was a revised unit,  & not a CAVE/CTHE

The link does not show different results for CAVE and CTHE. It justs says 178bhp stock PRE & POST 2013 >>> 198-218bhp.  So you can pretty much have either engine and still expect anything from 198 to 218 and accoding to REVO it will be ok, right...

To make impressions worse they show an MKI on the rolling road as well...  :D
