Vrs tuning

Featured Replies

every clio I have ever met on track has been overtaken by me ;)

I'm sure you did on the straights but most likely had to back off on the bends.

That reminds me of a poster that pop's up from time to time, at first wanting advice about a potential purchase that never went through, but now just sticks around making un-helpful posts...... Oh wa

Suspension, tyres and brake tuning will get you on to the straight bits faster, imo the standard engine has enough waft to warrant a better chassis set up so that's where I will spend my coin.

  • Not entirely true. There are tuners abroad that have tuned a few vRS Fabias and Cupras up to 300+ bhp with completely stock engines. I follow the owners closely and the cars run fine as "everyday" car

sean85,

even all CTHE are not Mapped the Same from the factory September 2012 to 2014,

which is maybe why a few early ones failed.

I am not saying all CTHE feel like a Remapped or fitting with a TMC Tuning box CAVE does.

But i am saying some CTHE do, and i have driven some that do, but i have not driven yours or your brothers.

So who remapped your CAVE engine, and what age is your brothers CTHE?

Mine was done by amd essex I have posted the graph for it in the graph section, my brothers is I think a 63 maybe 62 plate. I have driven a few newer ones whilst looking for the one I have and never have I thought it was the same as a tuned/mapped one, maybe if you compare a standard cave to standard CTHE then there might be a difference similar to the Mk1 vrs fabia where the asz rolled lesser figures then the newer blt in some cases, But from my experience never in the case of a mapped mk2 vrs cave to standard CTHE

I was not comparing a standard CAVE, i was comparing a Stage 1 or TMC Tuning box against a standard CTHE.

But if you feel there is no comparison, then thats what you have found, i find differently.

I have driven CTHE that Dealers have 95 ron petrol in, and these are not run in,

and they are rather relaxed, lets say, or Handicapped.

But a 62,13 or 63 plates on 99 ron should not feel like that.

Ok well as say that's what I have found your right dealers run on 95 Ron in newer ones and feel pretty poor but my brothers and my friends one both on 99 ron feel better but no where near a tuned or mapped cave engine and they have both driven mine and said same thing but if that's what you think or have found that's fine too. After all that's what this forum is for... Debates and opinions

Just out of interest, have you driven others stage 1 Twinchargers, or just your own?

& is yours Remapped & have some more tuning, or just different induction?

Yes I have I had a look at a black one with a dyno of 205 I probably would have bought it too but needed alot of tlc to much for the price

I'm sure you did on the straights but most likely had to back off on the bends.

on the contrary, they were hassled in the corners, so just followed the track rules, and let me by on the straights ;) you would be suprised what some roll bars, suspension, brakes, and track tyres can do for a fabia II vRS... (and the driver!)

yes, renault got it all right as standard on the fast clios, and they are a WORLD better than a standard fabia vRS as far as handling goes, no dispute at all, and maybe just a little slower on the straights, but without co-operation i wouldn't get past on the straight, you need more distance, there isnt that much difference in performance in a straight line..... BUt if you are stuck behind someone on the corners too, even if they are faster in a straight line, you should let them past, and they were just following track protocol :)

a few choice mods, make a huge difference to the fabia.....

my car couldn't be sold as a standard car like the clio, its too hard now, and tail out on command....  the renault does it all well, handles well and is an every day driver out of the box the fabia isn't that .....

but I have chosen to make mine a fast car round the track,,,,,

polybushing would probably make it even better! (go on, you know you want to!) however the ride will suffer even more.......

sean85,

A member joined with a Black vRS he had bought that had rather a lot done to it before he bought it,

but i do not think he has been back on the forum.

tattyjay's was done by AMD i believe, & has good figures, maybe he can say.

Maybe same car it wasn't heavily modified standard bar a map that was it just the paint was shocking.

oh, another thing... I have a VID!!!!! this is castle coombe... the two CAVE engines fabias in front of me are both reamapped...... watch the acceleration with my standard CTHE here ya go :) (I get infront of them both )check out the 4 a-breast with richard Fox in the skyline and the mental 350bhp octy!... IIRC the green one is sparkly's old car... about 205bhp on the rollers?

and just for fun, this is an airfield in czech, with my old TMC CAVE fabia, with jasons mongrel to the right, and skud_vRS octy mark I (210bhp) to the left, I muller them to 90 mph, then loose dramatically as the power of the other cars takes over to 130 mph! :o

. . . 95 ron petrol in . . . on 99 ron . . .

Ah, the RON fairy story then, it is all down to what you put in your tank . . .

LOL!

They're all being french so after the corner break

Lol? I see nothing of entertainment value within that post.

Thats nice mate by the looks of it your the better driver on track. All I'm saying is my one is 215 I think dyno has been posted on here, and it is night and day difference from any CTHE standard I have drove or come up against.

vxh26,

so please your words of wisdom on Fuel Octanes in the UK or in Europe, 95 , 97, 99, 100-102,

do cars with Maps to suit these fuels not benefit from them ?

PS,

any chance you have bought a Skoda yet?,  are you going for the all new 3rd generation Skoda Fabia?

if VW do not get you one, i will have to see if i can get you one, just for the joy of seeing you with some sort of vehicle.

PPS,

how is your skiing going this Winter?

if it IS 215, it would be faster than a standard CTHE anyway........

to be honest I think these engines differ wildly, and i think alot has to do with how they are run in , al always stretch my enignes when they are new, and run them normally, full revs where ness, full throttle where ness..... I think if they are "baby'd" they tend to loose abit of performance.....

No, one Man op in south west but believe he uses a Celtic map.

Plus your track tyres are going give benefit.

There are enough CTHE cars out there, maybe we'll see more coming through being tuned now that their warranties are running out and hopefully some graphs to prove these claims.

The driver, tyres, etc has such an impact around a track and we're talking about simply the power output here from the car.

Was you driving in manual or sport?

manual, always when wanting to go fast... sport will still end up in the wrong gear at times, and leave you with hesitation when it kicks down......

Has anyone had a cthe remapped yet? Shark are the only people I have found able to do it so far, but I'm not sure there charged justifies the gain to 205 . I know you can't number hog at all with these things as it's about driveability and usable power, but you need to start somewhere.

Nobody has said yet they have had it done in the 3 or more threads on CTHE Remaps & how it is available via the OBD without opening the ECU.

But APR & REVO say now that they can.

sharkrider asked 'Shark' in the Performance Section if they could, but i forgot to check if there was a reply.

I emailed them yesterday and they said they can, I haven't had an answer yet as to if it's available via sts.

Hi Adam,

We can map the CTHE engine. I will look into whether the new STS unit is compatible with your engine.

Thanks,

Matt
