Bluetooth Retrofit FL VRS

Featured Replies

I have a maxidot fitted but the Amundsen+ head unit so I had the same issue ie the maxidot display doesn't work with head unit so I got this part number 1k0805965c9b9 which then needs vcd programming :)

Another place to fit the module is behind the glovebox:

Pretty sure that one (and maybe some others). I too have been considering this for some time, have read the plethora of threads on here and looked at various other sites but am still a little bit confused about which unit would work with my car: 2011 registered VRS, no maxidot and Bolero radio....I think there may be many options...

About 15 I think :/

Took me ages to find the right one for me/my car!

I found this very useful:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Telephone_Retrofitting

It lists most of the module and what they do/don't support and what protocol they use (BAP for FL and DDP for pre-fl).

I've exported that grid into Excel. So would it make sense to filter the lists to BAP and BAP/DDP and go from there? Still lots of results though :/

Generally any modules which do RSAP need maxidot to pair them.  Those which do just HFP only, most notably 5k0... D or above or 7p6 ... J or above will pair from the phone end without maxidot, although you will need a newer Bolero/Columbus type head unit to use the BT.

Stupid question 37 by planehazza: Can Maxidot be retrofitted?

And this looks interesting, albeit pricey, for OEM BT retrofitting:

There was another lot I found (from links on here) that fit it for you, I think they were more around the £400 mark for me... :/

I've stared wistfully at the Ross-Tech site as posted by Phil previously and again now still unsure of what is the one for me. You say "newer" Bolero, how new? How can I tell other than the year of the car? Sorry for being athicky and high-jacking the thread. And in answer to Planehazza's question regarding retrofitting Maxidot, my understanding is it can be done on a pre-Fl (Eddy-NL??) but no-one has managed it on a FL.....

It can be done on any car. Pre-FL or FL it doesn't matter.

You can't fit a pre-FL dash to a FL though but eddie has now managed to fit a FL dash to a pre-FL car.

You also can't mix PD/CR dash pods. If you have a CR then you need a CR dash.

Petrol will take any petrol dash (bearing in mind the pre-FL/FL issue).

They can be used dash pods too as they can be programmed and the mileage corrected.

Great thanks. Something to consider in the long run.  How do you operate maxidot? Do you need steering controls (thus a new wheel in my case)?

Or, I look at aftermarket OEM fit stereos, but I gather they're serious money!

Do Zenec/Kenwood VAG fit stereos support the climate control displays etc?

You use the buttons on the end of the wiper stalk the same as you would to use the trip computer.

If you can find a used one cheap then just buy it. Eddie doesn't charge a lot to code them in. You may find a dealer willing to do it but most think they can't do it with a used one (they actually can!).

That's right, I thought it'd be hard but was pretty easy really. I used a wire coat hanger to pull the mic wire from the unit and through the dash, coming out on the passenger side. The A pillar cover pulls off (I've got some bojo tools for this) and then just pull the roof lining down a little so you can push the wiring in.

I have airbags :s

I have airbags :S

You have to pull the trims off and route the wire behind the airbag in that case.

When I said newer I meant newer head units like the Bolero or the Columbus, ie not the older Stream units,  I didn't mean newer versions of the Bolero.  Sorry for the confusion.

Yes you can, but also depends on the phone as well. I.e hfp or rsap.

I'm not sure it can be made to work with a Stream without maxidot is what I meant (relating back to posts 28 to 31 or so).
