1.9 100hp Fabi rear Brake Pads, LUC/TRW confusion

Featured Replies

Hi there, I have searched everywhere for the answer but am getting no luck :-(

I am getting new pads for my Fabia (2006 1.9tdi 100hp hatchback). Can anyone tell me the difference between a TRW and a LUC system?

If I go onto Brembo parts catalogue and search for my car, the correct part number to come up is: P85020 TRW:

http://bremboaftermarket.com/En/Car_Disc_Catalogue/Catalogue_Search.aspx?SearchMode=Model&IsResult=True&SearchBrand=SKODA&SearchModel=FABIA%20(6Y2)%2008/99%20-%2003/08&SearchAssemblySide=Rear&SearchCatalogueBrand=Brembo

yet the ones which (I think) fit the car off ebay, which have the same part number, state that they are LUC braking system:

I know the advert says Peugeot, but on the compatability list varients of the 6y Fabia come up, but strangely not my 100hp 1.9tdi version? - I thought all the varients were identical apart from the engines?

Can anyone help me to clear this up please? Will the pads in the ebay link fit my car?

thanks in advance

Mike

Where you see "LUC" I'm pretty sure will be referring to Lucas who produce brake components.

TRW and Lucas are considered to be genuine parts manufacturers for VAG groups cars - i.e. parts that were fitted from factory

The ebay link you've provided, and the image of the pads shown on that listing don't look right to me for the Fabia 1.9tdi 100....  pads that will work and are as near as damn it to genuine OEM parts are these ones (compatible with the 256mm front brakes on your car): http://www.eurocarparts.com/search/101440568/p/home

However, if you want to stick with genuine parts I would either go to a Skoda dealer or TPS (Trades Parts Specialists). They will be more expensive from here however as they are considered "genuine" i.e. TRW or Lucas branded

Hope that helps!

If your referring to Pagid brake pads from Eurocarparts, they're a bit more genuine than 'near as damn it', the OE ones are made by Pagid. In the attached pic you'll see the Pagid stamp on my OE ones bought yesterday from TPS :)

Hi thanks for clearing that up. I have ordered the ones in the Ebay link as in the advert it states the right part number (cross referenced from the Brembo website). I presume the photo is just for illustration purposes and doesn't reflect the actual look of the pads I am ordering. At least I hope - time will tell.

I will be buying Pagid for the front when it comes to it (Brembo is farrr too expensive for the front)

Thanks for your responses :-)

Are you suggesting you're going to put Brembo pads on the back and Pagid on the front?

Now, I  know they're not expensive, but it seems very weird to be getting high brand rear pads, and OEM on front.
