Safety vest in q4 2014 octavia

Featured Replies

Hi just a quick question to anybody who just recently got the updated octavia where they changed from an under drawer container under the passenger seat to just a slot for a safety vest, the question is when i looked at it yesterday there was no safety vest?? As some little sod nicked it or does it not have one but in the brochure it does make out there is one i think

In the UK you aren't supplied with one. I questioned my dealer on this when I found that tray too.

I didn't get a vest. There's a holder under the driver's seat too. I've already got my own vest anyway that I keep in the boot.

the tray under the seat is a perfect place to keep the owners manual so it isnt filling the glove box

... then when you brake suddenly it shoots out straight into the back of your legs.

That'll teach you to stop accelerating....

That's what I thought, but couldn't get the manual in it case to fit in the slot -  disappointed!

well my manual fits perfectly in the tray!

I suppose as these are not compulsory (as they are in most of Europe) the tight wads don't supply one. The number they would buy would probably work out at pennies each! Perhaps they will be in the options list soon!!

Along with the hi-viz coat in case it's cold or raining (or both, or worse...)

Cheaper to do the above (as I do, too) - Hi-viz vests are not expensive by any standards, but a motor manufacturer would be charging a lot more for the option!

Car companies are run by accountants these days. Or bean counters, as they're otherwise known. Every couple of pennies/cents/whatever saved on each car adds up to big money. So no incentive to include something unless the law demands it.

Also it's possible - though I have no direct knowledge - that the law where it does apply places the responsibility on the driver/owner rather than the manufacturer. So no obligation to supply with a new car.

Or they are shipped with them and they "disappear" during transit. That's what a dealer told me happened to the complimentary umbrellas that came with Superbs, until they switched to shipping them separately.
