  • You'd have to be a bit daft to think there won't be. Ford has (unlike other car makers) realised that loads of people remap and found a way to influence what people do to their cars. At least by off

  • This is my one, love the little beast.

  • Makes you wonder why so few makers do have an approved remap available. You'd think it would be better for VAG to be involved in a safe remap for it's products that just leave the door open to a mult

It would seem that 400bhp is the next benchmark in the battle of the hyper-hatches:

https://www.evo.co.uk/mercedes/a45-amg/19790/mercedes-amg-a45-technical-specifications-revealed-debuts-new-415bhp-m139

It's amazing what a 2ltr 4 cyl. with some level of turbo-charging is capable of achieving and without the laaaag of an 80's Group B car.    I wonder if this will be catalyst for all the remaining FFWD cars to switch to AWD/4WD when they bring out new models.

It would be interesting to see if the the next gen Golf R is going to have ~400bhp and if it will continue to use the EA888 engine.

I imagine the Golf R being cheaper than the 2.5litre Audi RS3 will be pegged back so it doesn't step on it's neighbours toes. The next RS3 will have more than the 415bhp AMG A45 because even a decent stage 1 remap would take the existing car from 395bhp to approaching 450bhp.:blush

I'm actually wondering if the next RS3 will be a TDI!

The new RS6/7 are derv drinkers.

Different market as the larger models are intended as effortless motorway munchers and not B road maulers like the RS3.

slightly OT, but how well does the 245 VRS handle a 330+bhp remap? What torque figures? It's related to this thread as i'm not considering one, as it's the easiest route cost wise with my preferred dealer. I'd be looking to remap it once the run in / 5k or so miles to make sure there weren't any underlying issues. The alternative is a Cupra ST which I know is capable of handling 500+Nm torque without much drama. A freind has just remapped his Focus ST (current gen, not the about to be launched one) and it torque steers like crazy.

The standard 245 should have 273lb/ft or 370nm of torque. Running 99 octane Shell V-Power mine made 294lb/ft or 400nm as standard. Stage 1 map bought 345lb/ft or 467nm and stage 2 with the hardware changes bought 380lb/ft or 517nm (minimum 350lb/ft between 2000-5000rpm). With standard P Zero 225/35R19 tyres on 7.5J Extremes it would torque steer and wheelspin in 3rd gear over 70mph in the wet. The simple solution without resorting to suspension mods was to fit wider 8.5J alloys woth grippier Michelin PS4S tyres which can handle a lot of power and torque even in the wet and are standard fit on many rear wheel drive 500bhp cars. If you really want to see how it puts the power down come along to Trax at Donington on Sunday 14th July and I will give you a couple of passenger laps in the Beast from the East Midlands.

Considering buying a Honda Civic Type R FK2 as a Second Car/Toy....

Thats an FK8, Not really a big fan of those. It has to be an FK2 for me.

Watched about 10 Reviews on Youtube, Read various Magazine Reviews also which to be fair I never usually do.

The main appeal is its still a Raw, FWD Hot Hatch with an LSD and Excellent Manual Gearbox. Too Hardcore for everyday but makes you feel Special when you drive it and its rewarding to Drive and would be perfect as a Second Car.
