Briskoda How Fast 2015 Bedford 02/05/2015

Featured Replies

ARBs helped a lot with mine as it stopped the ESP coming on too early, you could get a much better exit from corners.

Yes I think that would make a massive improvement.

Don't want to start spending money on this, but IF I were to go to another How Fast, I might look at what I can do with the rear ARB, as that's easily DIYable....think there's an old thread about ARBs in the Yeti forum somewhere....

  • Unlikely, I'm quite slow apparently. I just do well because I have a flash car.

I installed Whiteline RARB in no more than 45 mins using axle stands and car jack. Plenty of vids on Da Toobe on how to do it:)

Yup. brakes are a joke but the more I think about it the more I am convinced it is not because of the pads or rotors. I think there is something wrong there but I have no clue what.

When was the last time your brake fluid was changed? You'd be surprised what a difference it makes.

Does anyone else want any of the MSV pictures? If so PM me.

Just before Castle Combe with Motul RBF 660 using Gunson Easybleed.  Before I had Gulf Competition RF1000 fluid.

I need to do some more research into it and log brake pressures as it makes no sense. Pads and discs are capable of locking the wheels even booted with RS-R as it did happen on the track even when it was hot. It feels to me like the pressure applied via the pedal seems to be going somewhere else and not into the calipers. Feels like a bypass valve or sth lets it all recirculate instead of braking. I am absolutely sure there is no air in the system as I bled out 1ltr of brake fluid out of the system just to make sure.

I need to go through the VCDS brake bleeding procedure to see if this has any effect.

The problem is it is not consistent. I was driving for an hour earlier today and the brakes were "wooly" one way and rock solid the other. When they are "wooly" a "double tap" brake pedal application seems to firm them up suggesting air in the system... I am tearing my hair out here.

On top of that I am afraid that if I spend money on some bigger brakes I will see no improvement since calipers/pads/rotors are perhaps not to blame but sth else in the system.

Are you looking to organise a group purchase  or do you have access to the photos already.

I could be interested in a couple of pics if the price is right

Finally got around to uploading my fast lap vid to YouTube.

Apologies for low quality and noisy soundtrack. I only kept it as it allows to hear the engine, otherwise I'd have replaced it with some nice music "My Little Ponies" ;)

I added some comments as well

I hope you meant 1.31.22 lap?  ;)  You missed a 1  :D

Good one, I will leave it like that as I cannot be bothered to recode the vid again! Perhaps will add in comments

Looked a good lap.  missed apex doesn't always mean slow as it might mean you carry more speed through? :D  (racing driver excuses ;))

I had to delay throttle application in the second to last corner due to missing the apex as otherwise I'd have had hit the last cone.

I love that Whiteline RARB, car is steerable and what is more important very predictable and gives very good feedback, she lets me know I screwed up long before anything happens

And chasing James

Good session. I was surprised how fast that stock (apart from RARB and RS-R's and no clutter at the back - have to compensate for my fat derriere somehow) vRS went. I was faster with RARB by 4

.3 secs roughly notwithstanding the fact the track is supposely 1.5 secs slower... Bit annoyed with my my adrenal glands running waay too rich during timed laps (i could not even count to 2 and di 3 laps!) which resulted in really scruffy laps with a mountain of mistakes - I almost went off at the new shikane! With littel bit more cool 1.30's are there no problem. With half decent (and working) brakes I can cut another 2-3 secs off. Car did not miss a bit and did not burn any oil at all! Whiteline RARB transformed the car immensly. At the hardest setting it is handling brilliantly, no indersteer at all but pretty four wheel drifting when too much speed carried meaning good balance. No lift off oversteer (did not lift off much I must admit). One strange thing I noticed was a tyre hop on the acceleration phase out of the back long left hander. When I applied full throttle it felt like loaded tyre hopped once or twice - must play with pressures. Pity the training session is not 2hrs, would give me some time to do thongs like tyre pressures instead of trying to sort out the lines through the new layout.

I am desperate for a braking system which works. I think there is something not right there as the behaviour is completely inconsistent - it locked the wheels once which made me brake meters too early and on other ocassions pedal went to the bullhead and there was next to nothing there - I never knew if I was going to stop!

I enjoyed following James during practice session, good fun and I am glad the much lower tyre pressures had such a pronoinced effect. Few turns on collies must have made it more stable as well.

I have not checked but I think I had a better lap time this time then my Z370 fried the last time :).

No amount of power is going to compensate for a well handling car.

Interesting what you are saying about the brakes, I have the same issues on the road and never know what you going to get until you commit to the pedal, sometimes is fine and I feel rob of the corner because I brakes to early and other times I'm glad I I got on the stoppers early because I would never have made the corner. I've had it when the pedal went rock hard but it wouldn't stop at all like chronic brake fade.

Anyone else interested?

It is slow and bloody heavy!    My plan is hatched, I can confirm there is a snail shaped item with my name on it, Rockingham will be attended as is and then that is it for 2015, my weight loss program is being abandoned in favour of adding more power.

Don't tell the wife though as she wants a holiday  :x

When is the next Bedford trip out? Very interested as it has a great circuit for newbies like me I've heard. :D

Jason (Devonutopia) is talking about organizing another one later this year , as he missed this one, just keep an eye on the track section :)..

and yes, great for newbs, very few cars on track during the hours practice, max speed about 100mph (vRS speeds) so most of the track to yourself, and being airfield based, literally nothing to hit! lol... (except cones!)

The JPS has been repaired

Fault turned out to be the throttle valve control unit, apparently no air was being drawn into the engine and the flap had siezed shut, so she's now up and running again

lack of driving it mate!

lack of driving it mate!

Probably right

my eunos stands for ages, when I drive it, i try to kill it, that tends to open everything up, keep the discs clean, rear calipers unsiezed ect ect ;)
