We are now a three Skoda Family. I needed an economical run about after my boss threw his toys out of the pram over my private mileage on the company car. So a Brisky buddy put me in touch with the owner of Leo Slayer. He's a Mk1 Fabia 1.9 SDi in wonderful Flamenco Red. Previous owner had receipts for hundreds and he's nearlly run in with 116k on the clock.

First impressions are of amazing economy. I averaged 75+ mpg on my commute to work this week. The fuel needle didn't move from the full position until 170 miles showed on the trip. Cruises happily at motorway speeds but don't expect much more. Acceleration isn't a word I would use. I prefer gains momentum.

Today saw a trip to the local Eastern European hand car wash to see if they could put some more swirls in the paintwork. Which obviously they did as its their job !

And the only modification needed for this car was fitted today.

I love the SDi units, just simple honest and uber reliable. Agree, not gonna peel your face off with acceleration but aint that pedestrian. Plus they seem smoother than the PD TDi units. My sister ran a Classic SDi estate for many many years and it never missed a beat

Ohh no Charlie. I have also modified my driving style to suit. And have some suitable driving attire. Comprising of flat cap,corduroy trousers and sensible shoes.

Mileage update. When purchased odometer reading was 116100.

Now at 117391 so 1291 miles to £74 worth of fuel.

Grrrrr only had Leo a week and a half and broken already !

Only a H7 bulb though so good excuse for an upgrade to Osram Nightbreaker Plus.

Ohh not raining and the sun was shining today. So up with the bonnet and time to tackle grubby engine bay.

Engine cover is on the list of to gets. And ran out of elbow grease will continue when some more arrives.

3 weeks of ownership. 3000 faultless miles this little car is truly amazing a real work horse.

Also a little treat. The standard Radio was lacking in features. So out with the old and in with something more modern. I'm very impressed with the sound quality through the standard speakers. And Bluetooth conectivity is very handy. Halfords do a price match policy although the Dartford branch manager said no. So a five mile drive to the Orpington branch and the manager there said yes. Dartford 0 Orpington 1.

Not the first time that has happened with me either at Dartford, Pete, don't even bother wasting my time there now although the extra travel is a PITA. Orpington much better customer service IMO.

I spy with my little eye....... Snow tyres in the for sale section. And so a deal was done with vrsRob and two new tyres were mine. Now to the net to source another two. The price of tyres in 14 inch is cheap ! Ordered from Tyre Leader in Germany. Two 185/60/14 Kuhmo KW 23 = £65 total inc delivery and turned up within a couple of days. Just need snow now !
