Mysterious condensation

Featured Replies

My father in law puts bowls of salt in his caravan when he leaves it for the winter season

I have the condensation issue also in my superb. But more worryingly, is the fact it takes ages for my windscreen to clear, despite trying cool AC air, or non-AC hot setting? What is the fastest way to clear a fogged up windscreen first thing in the morning (without using your hand or a cloth)?

a - Fan on full, with AC and set to cold

b - fan on full, AC off and temp set to hot (keeping in mind the car is cold, so hot air is not available right away)

In my other cars, clearing the windscreen took a few seconds......where with the skoda it's like at least 5mins:(

any ideas?

If you leave the aircon on all the time and set whatever temperature suits you, you should not have condensation. The airco dehumidifies the air (dries it). I have had a car full of wet people and no misting. As a matter of note in 5 years with my Superb I have never turned off my airco, summer or winter it gives clean, dry, filtered fresh air. I have done this with all my cars and misting stopped the day I bought my first car with an airco!

some people just don't know how to operate the system ,my missus for instance on her car is forever fiddling with the controls even though hers has climate control , she can't comprehend she can just put it on auto and  that it doesn't have to be hot to use air con , usually ends up in a row

It is a common misconception that AC is only used in summer. Use it all year to maintain the system and have a 'good' climate be it hot or cold air service.

That said, for the first time yesterday my windscreen was misty in the morning....must be because I've read all these threads on windows misting up on VW/Audi products :)

I agree, it does counterintuitive but leaving the system on does work and is effective in keeping the condensation away. Took me a while to work that out a few years ago when I first experienced aircon/climate control.

We too just leave it on auto all year round - the only time when not is to use recirc to avoid smells etc.

I'm not sure about current ones, but certainly my old car needs to have the aircon run ideally every 1-2 weeks to keep the system lubricated and the seals wet.

If you have climate control the a/c is switched on and off as it sees fit
