Dummys guide to fitting london colour HID kit?

Featured Replies

Seen london colour had the hid kits on sale so took the punt and bought a set, arrived promptly and looks a good bit of kit, however ive never fitted HID's before, (always took the xenon bulb route)

Most of it looks pretty straightforward howevere theres two wires im assuming a live and ground i have no idea where theyre meant to go?

any tips or has someone previously posted a guide to installing this kit?

I have searched with nothing of use showing up

Cheers

Dan

Dan, if you do a search in the Octy II forum, there's a long topic already running. Loads of useful info in there.

Not sure if your car needs coding to fit the HiDs, but if it does, DO NOT FIT until the car has been coded with VCDS.

You'll end up with all sorts of troubles.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread, but why does the system need coding? What exactly does the coding accomplish?

I only ask as I have had an HIDS4U kit installed for nearly 2 years now and never changed any coding, and you have worried me now :-(

Thanks

Dan

It depends on the model year of the car.

Later models use Canbus to monitor electrics etc.

Errors occur if the ECU doesn't see what it expects so it has to be programmed to accept changes which affect it.

Headlights are an example.

It all depends on the model year of the car. i believe earlier models, as yours, don't need coding.

If you've had no issues with your HiDs I guess all is well so don't worry.

Thanks very much, it has been 2 years and with the exception of a bulb replacement they have been trouble free so I think I will leave well alone whilst there happy.
