White/grey smoke from exhaust

Featured Replies

Mine took 2 or 3 days from Skoda. Non OEM would be a quick cheap fix, see how long it lasts you could set a record, mine did 4.5 months.

For that price I would be very happy with 4/5 month to be honest

Fair enough, most important to get it running right again even if it is only temporary.

Yeah that's what I want, I don't want to pay top dollar for a load of parts what it might not be, if I could identify the problem to a part I would get oem with out a doubt

You'll probably find that sorts it looking at the symptoms. When was the cambelt/water pump done by the way? My non OEM stat started playing up after I had mine done I think.

I have no idea about when or if the cambelt/water pump has been done

Car is on 127k miles so to me getting the cambelt done is at the top of things to do

I'd tie that in with getting the OEM stat and sensor done if you get a cheapy to see you through, wouldn't add much to the labour charges and they'd be draining the coolant anyway.

By the way congratulations on becoming a vrs owner, great cars.

I can change the stat myself not a problem, I would give the cambelt/water pump ago if I have time but so far I've had a quote of 285 to do cambelt and water pump

Thanks, it's a very nice car, quite nippy too, hope I keep it longer than rest of cars I've had

Ha, yeah I know got big plans for car as well but need to get it running 100% first

Cool, be good to watch it's progress, enjoy!

Thanks pal

The thermostat is a bit of a fiddly job, Id recommend getting an OE one and then have hassle free motoring

Sorry to (sort of) hijack the thread, but i have the same problem.

I have a mixed commute to work that take about 50mins. The car comes up to temperature and stays there fine, regardless of how long i am sitting in traffic etc.... The fan cuts in and there doesn't appear to be any issues with the cooling system.

However, at the end of each journey the car is still emitting the same whiteish smoke it does on cold start?

Is this definitely something to do with the cooling system?

The O P'S problem was more about temperature fluctuations. Mines puffing out quite a lot, it does settle down though. It has been fairly exceptionally cold and turbo emissions are pretty warm. So I'm not too worried, temps are spot on and my engine is running very clean as I've found from a recent MOT.

Fair enough. I'll stick it into my old work at some point and get them to do an emissions test for peace of mind.

My main concern is the amount of smoke from my car lol didn't realise there was a problem with my temp until I posted here

Oh right lol, I'd be more concerned if it's doing it warm weather and it was a darker colour. Keep tabs on it and get it checked out, it's always going to be worse in cold air though.

Ok, are the coolant and oil levels holding steady or dropping?

I've just noticed my coolant has dropped half inch, oil is fine and no oil/coolant mixing

Coolant is absolutely fine, oil is maybe a quarter of a liter at most, in around 6000 miles.

Ok; just checking it wasn't a sign of HGF, but coolant is good and oil consumption is too low for visible smoke.
