2001 Fabia Radiator Fan Not Spinning

Hey guys, I have a 2001 Skoda Fabia 1.4mpi, and recently I have notice that when the main fan comes it would make some noise. After a while this stopped and the fan no longer comes on to cool the engine, just the ac fan would come on. I was told that when the fan or connector for the fan get wet ( I had driven thru some water a few days before) it does this and the connector requires re-seating. I have done this and the fan still isn't switching on. What could be causing this?
