Bugger and other such strong explatives!! Less than a week after having my octy vrs re-mapped (not sure its related yet) and the engine management light came on today whilst driving and the car went into limp mode, wouldn't rev at all, cruised home at 40mph, tried stopping and re-starting but within a mile it came on again, any ideas??

Going to try to limp up to JBS in the morning, they assure me it won't do any damage, but im not 100% happy to drive it the 50 odd miles, waddya all reckon?

Looked at a couple of threads, might try putting the standard div valve back on, should i change the boost valve back too?

I'm well brassed off, was going so well too....

If i don't get any feedback, i'll post what happens tomorrow!!

I would be happy to follow JBS's advice. What DV and boost valve (N75?) are fitted at the moment?

Have the coil packs ever been replaced? I wouldn't have thought there were many left with the dodgy batch but you never know...

1.Forge 007 with yellow spring ala JBS

2. 4.0 boost valve thingy....you know what i mean!

3.Unsure how to tell which coil packs are in it?

Was a perfect little beauty till today, done at least 1000miles since ive had it, only had this problem today....

Keep those ideas coming, its nice to know someone cares!!

I suspect you mean the FPR (fuel pressure regulator). If a coilpack has failed there should be noticeable rough-running present and possibly the smell unburnt fuel from the exhaust. I wouldn't drive 50 miles with my car in that condition.

Pure limp mode (just without boost, etc) is OK to drive on - any other symptoms I would not (such as rattley running, smokey)

Ran my Fabia from its first time back on the road for 2 weeks in limp mode - was perfect at starting, its just my 0-60 leapt up to 20 seconds. :o

Just had the vag thing read.....

Codes; p0300 and p0302, think that relates to the coil packs, anyone know for sure?

Got to find the thread about the re-call from Skoda then find out if my coils have already been done.Anyone got any suggestions??

Ta,Goose

Does the car sound like it's miss-firing? or does it just feel like there's no boost? Prehaps a loose hose.

Whatever you do DON'T remove the 4 bar FPR your car has been mapped for this, replacing with a standard 3 bar FPR would make the car run lean which is not a good idea.

If it is the coilpack(s) then your nearest Skoda dealer should sort asap. If you want to check the coilpacks yourself you need to remove the plastic engine cover and check the part no. on top of the black plastic item which covers the wholes where your spark plugs would be. The last letter of the part number is the revision of coilpack you have and will be typically something like H or J.

Do i get a certificate or a t-shirt?? Looks like i just joined the coil pack failure club! Just spent the morning at my local Skoda dealership; Clock garage in Derby, they replaced 3 of the coils, as 1 had been done previously.Car now fixed and much better than it was before, so might explain the hesitancy i had post re-map. Anyone suggest a decent replacement plug as thats next on the list!

Out of curiosity and interest, i took the memo that i printed off here stating the coil replacement doo-daa from Skoda, the warranty chap was very helpful, but could find no trace of a re-call or suchlike?? said the one i presented him with is certainly not on his system and most likely fictitious!!

I pushed for the coil replacement under warranty/goodwill and they emailed Skoda to find out, i paid for the 3 coils and they will ring me when they hear and hopefully refund me....  not that i hold out much hope tbh! What i was wondering is how others have got round this....just toi give me more ammo if need be.

Cheers,Goose

I had all 4 replaced not long after I got the car, the last service wasn't even done at Skoda but they replaced them under warranty without question. There wasn't a recall as such but if they're faulty they should be changed FOC was my understanding. This was announced after a feature on watchdog regarding VAG cars and this problem.
