Windscreen washers not working. Help!

Featured Replies

As above the washers aren't working. I can hear the pump and I do get the occasional short spray of water then it stops.

Tried poking a pin the jets and yes it is topped right up with washer fluid.

It's not been particularly cold so I don't think it's frozen.

Anything else I can try?

Have you tried removing the jets and see if water is coming through? If yes then blocked jets, soak them in hot water and clean through with a pin or bristle off a brush.

Would I need to remove the scuttle panel to do that or is there an easier way to just get the jets out? I tried getting in to check the pipes were connected but couldn't see an easy way to get the scuttle off.

Have you tried running them for a while and then looking under the car to see if there is a puddle of screen wash?

That'll give you a clue as to where the leak is (if there is one).

Listen to the pump when you start it. Is there an increase in pitch as/ effort as the pump tries to push screen wash through but is building up pressure due to a blockage (might not be the nozzles themselves)?

You do not need to remove the scuttle panel to get the jets out. They prise upwards from they fittings. I can;t remember which short edge need to be lifted - I think it is the one nearest the actual jets. the other end has a longer lug on it to hold it in place.

Thanks KB. The noise doesn't seem to change but I'll check again.

First job will be to get the jets out then and see if they are blocked.

I had this problem a while back. Turned out to be a split in the pipe under drivers headlamp. Repaired with larger bore pipe and glue.
