Strange after new clutch and dmf

Featured Replies

Hi all . Just after a few pointers really .. I changed the clutch and dmf on my fab Vrs at the weekend with my pal who is cag trained .. All went well . We also did powerflex wishbone bushes in rear of consuls and a n/s tie rod complete with end .. It drive like **** over weekend due to I thought new tie rod , so I got the tracking done today . It drives much better ( still pulls to left a tad ) .. But my biggest upset is . When on motorway . If your in any gear and your on and off the throttle the car wanders . When you get on the gas it seems to want to pull left a bit but as soon as you get off the gas it goes right . Feels like something's loose underneath the car . Would a worn eng mount or dog bone mount cause this ?? Any pointers please ??

Regards tony

Are the wheel bolts tight? :)

They did get torqued up to 120nm . But I haven't checked to be fair . If you take u hand off the steering wheel and go on and off the gas the steering wheel goes left then right slightly . Don't ever recall it doing it before . Could having new consul bushes show up other worn stuff ??

Could do as the engine twists. Mine does it slightly but not bad.

Ive got all new mounts and suspension to fit so should sort it.

Your tracking might not be right still. Despite being done. Takes me a couple of visits to get m8ne ok

Is there anyone who can make fabias go in a straight line .. I've not a red poly dog bone bush to fit . Will try to fit tomorrow .. Seems a lot of engine movement when changing gear ..

Be interested to know billy if fitting new suspension parts cures yours . Mines on std shocks and springs at 130k . So I'm sure they are past the best .. Just not got the money to change them yet ..

The US Navy; they use an aircraft carrier and a steam catapult, should do about 200 mph as well.

when you did the console bushes you will have removed the front arm bolts that go into the alloy console i'd have a good guess these haven't been done up tight enough or the threads have stripped this will cause exactly the issue you describing

my advice is jack each side up of the car until each front wheel is off the ground make sure you steering lock is applied and grab each wheel in the 9 & 3 o'clock position and pull back and forth

get someone to look at the front arm where the bolts goes through and i guess this will be moving (the outta metal subframe must grab the bush to keep it from moving)

if the bolts have stripped the threads from the console you can get away with fitting longer bolts to grab the last remaining threads

give the above a try and let us know how you get on

Not really, get a helicoil kit off ebay for £10 and repair it properly.

I was thinking console bolts . One did strip and I put a timesert in . And that is definitely tight . I will check the other side though . It did up ok ,

Ill let you know my suspension is 135k olt too and well past it.

I know a good place for alignment in bristol too. He sorted my m5 out good and proper. Hoping he can do his magic on the fabia too

As you can see . The answer to my question was ... The divers console bolt was tight but not tight enough ... So that cured the pulling on an off the gas....

However now since I had the tracking done . It still pulls the the left and the steering wheel ain't straight . Steering wheel slightly left . I go back to place that did it and he says we're have another look . Go back to collect it and they say that had taken it to another place to get it done . So I collect it and now the wheel is slightly to the right , yet still pulls left . I think all they did was move the steering wheel a notch ... He also said that the reason it's no good is that the powerflex bushes are too stiff !!! And that there's a bit of play in the rear axle .. I think I'm being fobbed off . Any one know any good places Kent to get my fabia to go in a straight line ...

It's driving me mad now ....

Please help

Regards tony

Sounds like a **** garage mate.

I stand and watch them do mine. Make sure they do it right

I think they are . Worst thing for me is .. I've been a motorcycle mechanic for 18 years also spanner for a new bsb team . So I kinda know nuts and bolts .. Any one recommend a good place for setting up fabias in the south east

i had a the same problem with my polo when it was lowered it was tracked up but always drifted to the left and wheel sat off centre

tried all sorts to resolve and then just decided to live with it, now i've out it back to normal height with the same wheels and its perfect after having it re-tracked again

what did help was not to use directional tyres on the front and had the tracking set to 0.5deg toe-in

You need a place that doesnt go by specs like most do. Its that that screw up a lowered car. You need one that thinks outside the box and knows the kit propperly. Most are drive in drive out jobs and they do F all as all they want is your £30 an axel and next one in asap for fast turnaround.

F1 is the next best for me after the guru in bristol cant think of the name off my head but his name is Lee. F1 did an ok job but now I know Lee is a guru Ill be going there all the time.
