Car Jack on incline

OK, so I know generally it's advised not to raise the car on an incline, but this Friday I want to take the wheels off, purely to clean them.  I won't be climbing under the car.  This is my drive way:

The incline isn't as severe as it looks, as the drive way to the left actually slopes very slight downwards towards the house.

 

I'm planning to raise one front corner at a time using the OEM Skoda jack and place axel stands under so that I can remove the front wheels and give them a thorough clean and wax.

Could you shift the astra and park it across left to right?

Atleast it wont roll anywhere?

Park it with the rear facing down hill. Make sure the handbrake is well on and chock the rear wheels.

When you jack up, keep an eye on the rear wheel on that side and make sure it doesn't rise above the chock and all should be well.

Sorry that's an old photo from Google Maps, the Astra is well gone now :D

 

I estimate it's a 18:1 slope?  That's working on the drive being ~20 ft long, with the top being just over 1 foot higher than the bottom.

Not very steep then.

If it was the astra, id say forget the chocks and leave the handbrake off too ;) haha.

go with the halfords jack the oem jack wont raise the car to a hight were you can get a stand in.

Thanks.  Will I need the normal or low profile?  Also, with it being on wheels, what's to stop it sliding about, especially on a slope?

 

ALso, whilst I'm there, shall I get 2 more stands to have all four corners on stands? Would that be safe on this gradient?

once the weight is on it will stay put  place it side ways to the slope .

Thanks. At the end of the day I only need it off the deck an inch to remove the wheels. Will the car be safe entirely suspended on stands with all wheels removed on this slope?

I wouldn't , do one at a time.

 

at a push do one side at a time then you will have one braked wheel on the ground at all time

Unless you need to buy a trolley jack, why not just use what you have and chock all other wheels just to be safe.

I would not want to use the standard jack on that incline. They are really only usefull on the flat

My drive is about half that incline and the standard jack is on its limits. Very hairy

Definately need a trolley jack

As said above, get the trolley jack, a lot safer and a lot easier to use too, plus when you're using a trolley jack you're further away from the car and stood up more so you can shift faster if it falls. if yours is the drive with the blue car then there'll be no problem, if it'a the one with the red car, then there will still be no problem.

I've seen a car on this drive with 2 axle stands before now. Not advisable but it stayed.

I wouldn't want to use the standard jack on the flat let alone a slope. Purely for road side emergencies.

 

There is a reason scissor jacks are often referred to as widow makers.

 

Invest in a trolley jack, you already have the axel stands.

 

My drive is on a similar slope to yours and the trolley jack under one corner at a time works just fine.

 

Handbrake on, in gear and chocks if you have them and together with an axel stand next to the jack (in case the jack fails or the car falls off) and all will be fine.

Unless your car is less than 14 CM off the floor then you won't need to worry about the low one. That's mostly for lowered cars and sports cars.
