Wax over sealant or vice versa

Featured Replies

I am confused.

(As usual.)

Until last night I was assuming that 'wax' was a generally natural material put over the polished car to protect it, and that 'sealant' was the artifical version. And you could use one or the other.

Reading a thread last night, people seemed to be discussing which sealant or QD to put over the top of a wax layer to finish it all off.

Since I have very limited opportunity to properly clean my cars, I'd like to get this right so once its polished, am I waxing and then sealing, or sealing and then waxing? Or just sticking with wax?

And if I am using Dodo Juice Blue Velvet, would something like Sonax's LTP or Chemical Guy's Jet Seal 109 be a suitable partner?

Finally, for a top up on a dark blue car, what would the best QD be?

Thanks

Matt

I thought it was wax then seal too, but nope other way around. I too have DJ blue velvet and 109,so I'll be polishing with so, then sealing with 109, then finally waxing with DJ bv.

Thanks. When the opportunity arises I'll be better positioned not to muck it up [emoji1]

As said, sealant first. Then add wax if you wish to....not the other way around

Thanks.

Any thoughts on a suitable QD for top ups?

And I will post pictures :)

Thanks.

Most QD's will be fine, some may react with your wax/sealant. If just starting out you might be best trying to get the same brand of QD as the wax/sealant you use. My favourite QD at the moment is Adams Detail Spray.

I had been meaning to ask you about your the recent Adam's purchases - how have you got on with them NM?

Might be worth posting a mini-review at some point. The drying towel and QD have had some great feedback

I used it at the weekend on another car I look after, I used the QD as a drying aid to test it out & the Big Yellow towel. Must say i'm very impressed, despite the low temperatures it dried smear free & gave a nice gloss. The QD smells very nice also.

OK cool - i'll get in touch with Jeff @ PrestigeCarCareShop on his current stock and GB options
