2007 Vrs - Blown engine at 51k

Featured Replies

Very disappointed to report that i've experienced a blown engine on our vrs - with it only being 46 months old and covered 51,000 miles.  It's been fully serviced from day 1 (owned from new) and a lady driver in the main.

Our local garage, Winner in Cinderford (Forest of Dean) have been excellent, and have really tried with skoda - and have managed to get them to reduce the bill by 70% - but it still means we have to fork out £1300.  It is just galling that a 'new' car can fail so dramatically with such little mileage on.

Has anyone else successfully shamed skoda into paying post end of warranty?

2007 vrs? 46months old. It may be me but that doesnt add up.

To answer your question, a couple have had some success out of warranty. All depends on whats happened I suppose.

This is possibly about an Octavia from previous posts.

No Fabia vRS engine has ever blown up or any owner had issues with out of Warranty.

Correct - no idea where the 2007 bit came from!  Try 2011 (11 plate)!

Out of Warranty is difficult,

it will require legal actions maybe against Skoda / VW, they knew the Issues were affecting many vehicles when the Warranties

were valid, and took no actions to assist owners unless they complained.

They never changed the Service Schedule for Spark Plugs or did a Service Campaign to change Breather Pipes Valves.

They just revised the engines and discontinued the CAVE that was having issues in quite a few cases.

Now they seem to admit they knew what one issue was by fitting different 'Squirters'.

A Solicitor might be a good idea,

& a Independent Motor Engineering Experts Report on the Engine and the Fundamental Faults.

Wish we'd looked at this earlier - would have taken extended warranty or got rid of it!  Might well take legal advice - thanks!

Bill reduced by 70% to £1300 ( does that include vat?)

So initial bill was £4333

Less cost of parts at £3422

Gives labour charge £911

11 hours at £83 per hour.

Another member last Friday,

was told he would have to contribute 20% on a Quoted cost of an engine change over £6,000

Skoda / VW / Seat / Audi are making it up as they go along.

2010-2012 vRS,  In Warranty, on Extended Skoda Approved Warranty, Other Providers Warranties

and Sadly those with no Warranty on cars still less than 4 1/2 years old.

Contact Skoda direct, this is a known problem and could be argued as a manufacturing fault from new

You are a good customer and clearly have demonstrated brand loyalty

FWIW I got Skoda to pay for my new abs pump (G201) on my 6 year old 68,000 mile Octy 2 after a well worded (Even if i do say so myself) letter , my dealer although very good had totally failed to get any goodwill from Skoda but they refunded me 100%.

Think this is an Octavia?

Dad, I fink I got it wrong again.
