Superb 2011 Twindoor not closing evenly

Featured Replies

My boot lid / twindoor has started fail to fully close.

when I have closed the boot in the past there was a whirring noise and the boot lid would sink an additional couple of mm, as the locking mechanism 'grabs' the boot closed.

now when I shut the boot it whirrs and pulls the boot lid closed and then makes a poping noise and the passenger side rises up slightly. It happens when I use either the boot lid or the full hatch, but only the boot lid appears out of line. It doesn't appear to be leaking (yet) but I'm concerned that it will only get worse and result in total failue of the locking mechanism.

does any one have any similar expirence or advice on how I may be able to fix it.

Thanks

i have something similar, but when i close the boot lid it stay up, should the clasp in the boot drop down,

Hi, I had a similar problem with mine, at first when closing the full boot lid it would lock on the bottom latch then take about 5seconds for the side locks to latch then when occasionally closing the full boot you could here the bottom boot catch pull in then a grinding noise and the boot rise up open again before the side locks had chance to lock, I would have to try closing the boot a couple of times before it would lock, I had the same when just using the small boot lid and then it got to a point where it would just not lock, I stripped the boot to see the locking mechanism, a electric motor pulls a toothed bar which in turn pulls the soft close locking pin down, there is a spring that pulls the mechanism back the other way when you open the boot. The problem I found was the teeth had worn out on the bar at the locked position so the motor couldn't hold the pressure of the spring and the mechanism would open again, there must be a switch in the body of the mechanism that needs to be made when the lock is closed so the side locks pull in.
A quick fix I found for this was to remove the spring so the mechanism stays in, it won't soft close in and out like it should and just stays in so you will need to slam the boot a little harder but the locking works as it should.
I struggled to find a new lock so had to resort to breakeryard.com, took a photo of the part and the part number and got a reply with in a couple of hours! cost me £60 for the part with a month warranty, when it was fitted it sorted all the problems I'd had.

See the pic I've hopefully attached, the blue arrow points to the tooth bar of the mechanism that had worn out on mine and the red arrow points to the spring I removed, I believe the part number is 4f9 827 383

Hope this helps

Can you hear the latch motor running? Does the hatch part work correctly? With the boot lid open put something like a screwdriver across the latch to replicate the boot latching and check it the latch pulls down? Let me know what you find.

Skoda got rid of this system on the facelift version to simply eliminate the problem

When i close the boot it lock but doesn't soft close. the motor runs but nothing happens and i can't open the hatch or the lights don't flash when it locks. if i hold down the boot door the lights flash when locked and i can open it as a hatch.

it sounds like the toothed bar has worn

when you say skoda eliminated the problem does that mean that the facelift doesn't soft close

Remove the metal plastic trim by undoing the two screws inside where the warning triangle is stored and pull up the panel. Look down and you will clearly see the motor and latch. Either the rack has worn or you will see a pin out of place, sometimes the pin has fallen out completely but you will find it in the spare wheel well. Glue it back in with something like epoxy. Its an easy fix. Like you say the hatch wont release unless unless you hold the boot down, this is because the latch lid part of the latch is not down enough to press in the microswitch.

If you look at the pic in the post above by bryanp the pin is where the blue arrow is pointing to. It's easy to see when you pull off the trim.

Thanks, i'll look for the pin first

Hi, I have to do this job later today... is it blatently obvious where I have to glue the pin, or do I have to think about where it needs to go?

Much appreciated.
