Paint gripes

Featured Replies

Truth is there should be no manufacturing problems with paint these days. Body shells are painted typically panel free and the panels are painted off car and sometimes not even in the same factory/country.

You couldn't be more wrong here, cars are painted with all panels and doors fitted. Go look on YouTube if you don't believe me.

And yes I do work in the automotive industry, 15 years working with paint robots to be exact.

I disagree. Even at Skoda they (technical manager at the dealer) confirmed they painted separately at the factory. He had the bonus of going to the plant in Czech.

Jaguar do the same to just for comparison.

Then again I did say typically.

Again go on you YouTube and watch the Octavia production line videos where they paint cars with the doors and all panels on.

And working for a supplier to Jaguar Land Rover no they don't paint them separately, and yes I have visited their plants.

Very good. But I wouldn't take it to heart.

Maybe you should re-educate my local dealer. It may stop them lying profusely.

I think I spotted my car in that video. I'm sure the robot was on a break when it trundled through the line.

There isn't a problem apart from your car and the car loaned to you apparantly. You need to post some photos.....

Is there a chance your particular car was damaged and repainted before your dealer received it.

Its a valid point but the condition of the paint and the locations suggests more of a manufacturing fault. But, who knows for sure.

Well it's a fairly simple task to measure the paint thickness, that would tell you if its been repainted or not.

I bought an e class new back in 2001 , it wasn't until we checked the paint depth we found the roof had been repainted , presumably at the factory

My dealer was a little surprised when I went around my vrs with my paint gauge before in handed any money over!

I've been known to take a sun lamp to inspect the paintwork myself :)

Can you recommend a good quality paint thickness gauge at a sensible price?
