Mainz car care - beware

Featured Replies

i will let you make your own mind up. But thought I'd give you a heads up.

Just catching up on this news now..... really really sad to hear this; shocking events indeed.  :@

The Mainz FB page has gone offline as well; after initially saying Sonia was taking over and Dean was taking time off...

I will update my last Mainz Thread title accordingly

Brown stuff >>>>>>  Fan >>>>>>> big mess.   Bye bye Mainz

Sad episode all round.  if the facts are as presented then stealing from charity is low and you'd think the actions of a desperate man.

Thanks for posting.  Its posts like this where a thanks button would be much more appropriate then a like button IMO.

Indeed..Ive met with Dean and Sonia a couple of times

...I also agree ...Ive thought the 'Like' button needs replacing for a 'Thanks' one for a while

Thought it only fair to post, not bothered about the thanks or like, it's just a heads up

HFH did receive the cash in the end though ?

It looks like a mistake rather than a deliberate act to me..I might be wrong..Hopefully not

BUT whatever the truth...........

.........Is that a good reason to not use Mainz again?

I didn't use them in the first place :P first time I've heard of them.

I think if Dean had held his hands up & apologised & then paid it he would have come out of it with some credibility, although it would still have been wrong.

BUT he has then presented a forged document using the H4H header in an attempt to deceive, ie fraudulent actions.

That IMO rules out it was a "mistake" :giggle:

IMO that's a good enough reason not to use or trust them anymore.

Seems incredible that someone would put a business on the line for a couple of thousand quid, but who knows how these people tick?

Sounds fraudulent to me on the face of it! Poor showing!

Certainly attempted fraud, even if now put right.  Perhaps now there is "technically" no crime committed with the actual payment now made to H4H, but the fact remains a serious attempt was made to keep £2k.  Maybe the forgery of the H4H document in itself is a criminal act?  Not sure, I'll stick to accountancy, not lawyer stuff. :D

Just been taking part in a 'debate' on fb regarding this. Mainz has been dropped as a sponsor on a couple of events later in year. Along with a couple more screenshots like the one above. Someone also went on the website to check companies (companies house website probably) and turns out the business isnt doing to well at moment. I dont how assets/income/bank balance etc is all worked out to value a company. But it said its net worth was -14,000. Again that might be normal but I dont think so. (But alas im no accountant)

Edit: I'm also of the opinion that this is disgusting, if it is all true. Dont see how something like this can come out if it hasnt happened (especially seeing as the company seems to be winding down... better spend that voucher I have. Dont reckon I'll get a refund. )

It is definitely bordering on criminal fraud, namely;

Fraud by false representation

Fraud by abuse of position

Pity to see though...

What a shame, I really liked mainze products but I won't be buying anymore. What a great charity and what a shame for mainze!

Forging a H4H headed letter....... definitely not, which is really sad. Yes, he must've been in a pretty desperate place, but that is no excuse. I certainly would not buy their goods now; seeing first hand what H4H do with their money and how much it benefits my own community and how much effort they put into raising the funds.

Fair enough

Given more facts, then I would now tend to agree

It's a really hard thing to not look for the best in people, especially as you've met the bloke. It must seem a bit unbelievable from your point of view Chris. Desperate people do desperate things pal.

It would appear so

Very sad..I thought they were doing OK...Obviously not

...and no excuse

Some people genuinely think they've done no wrong if in their minds they've merely 'borrowed' the money with the long term intention of paying it back......the fraud comes when they deliberately cover it up, even if they do end up paying it back.....a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted

If conviction results no-one will trust him again, including the banks

My son's race team have been involved in the HFH fund-raising for two years now, and having met some of the guys the money goes to, I find it so very sad when somebody does something like this.

I know there are always reasons for doing something like this, but the guys that the money goes to are so proud and independent that I can't help but feel that they deserved better from this.

Just my personal opinion.

I'd be a little careful about posting figures verbatim around the net without really understanding them. The business report on this site http://ukdata.com/company/08425277/MAINZ-CAR-CARE-LIMITED?name=MAINZ+CAR+CARE+LIMITED&postcode=S44+6BJ&details-button=View+Details lists the company as private limited and with a filing date of 31 march 14. So accounting data contained on companies house would be nearly a year old, and in any case would have been very limited by small business reporting exemptions. There may have been losses, which isnt unusual when setting up a business, and can be ok as long as the shareholders capital covers those losses. But that's enough accounting speak from me.

Edit: Hope that doesnt sound too preachy, apologies if it does :)

I hope it doesn't sound too crass for saying so, but if (and this is a big if) the business is in involuntary liquidation then there may be some sore of liquidation sale with proceeds going to creditors rather than the shareholders. Bargain or two possibly to be had by consumers, or someone in the industry.

Sounds very dodgy, and pretty disgusting as well. I really liked Mainz products (their Bri-10 glass cleaner was the best I've used) but can't see me buying from them again, even if they somehow survive, which I doubt they will.
