Dial sweep

Featured Replies

Hi,

64 plate vRS - not a biggy but, on start up sometimes the dial sweep is there and sometimes it isn't, very random, is this normal, on last mk2 happened every time I started car, same with vRS welcome thingy on info screen?? Just my OCD getting the better of me [emoji57]

The welcome info is random , usually if stood for a while it always comes on ,the dial sweep should be a constant though , video the next time on your phone when you start up to show to your dealer as should be covered on warranty

I think it only does it if the car has been off for 15 mins+

Got a demo vrs at moment and only seen the dial sweep once and the car has been off between start ups for at least 1 hr plus..

Done maybe 10 start ups

Thanks for replies, seems it's not just mine then, very random, must admit do like the sweep on start up.

Will keep an eye on the timing, cheers.

Good idea, thanks Blue [emoji106]

Mine's not a VRS, but since having the needle sweep enabled it does it every time.

Sweeps every single time... even if stood for less than 15 mins.....

Mine was left over night in garage and still didn't sweep this morning, weird [emoji52]

Started up today a further 5 times since last post and sweep only once when car had been off for 5 mins,,, weird.

The other variable may be time from unlock to ignition on, as when you unlock the car it starts booting up.

Are there any other experiences of the dial sweep not happening every time? Mine happens about once every 10 times I switch on the car.

Any ideas what the issue is?

Mine sweeps all the time, I wait until it stops sweeping then I start the Car........

Just curious, since the Elegance models don't have it. At which point does it do the sweep? When you turn on the ignition?

On the vrs at least should be every time you switch on the ignition....worked on.my mk2 Blackline. ...

Just to add that mine only sweeps very rarely. Seems no rhyme or reason to it. Annoying as I find the sweep strangely satisfying. Hope they fix it when it goes in for its first service. Good to know I'm not alone so the issue should be familiar to Skoda techs.

Mine does it everytime, can't see the point in though.

If it is just a visual thing & serves no real purpose then I agree with Neily03 - what's the point? Just seems like another annoyance when it doesn't work as people think it should.

I think I'd just find it annoying, since I don't often let the car sit with the ignition on but start it right away pretty much every time. If the dials did a sweep when I press the start button, I wouldn't see the revs rise when the engine starts.

You don't need to see the revs rise when the engine starts though as the car will start itself with a flick and release of the key

Tried starting the car quickly and waiting a while....still no needle sweep today and yet it does it randomly occasionally..

It's quite frustrating really!! Even though it serves no purpose!

No key here (KESSY)*. I've had fully automatic starting in my cars for the last decade, so that's nothing new. It's just more satisfying to see the actual revs and not just superfluous needle movements that serve no purpose.

I mean I'd be ok with it if they did it while there were no actual readings to display, but I'd take real readings over flamboyance any day.

*The whole start button seems unnecessary in a modern car. I wish other manufacturers would use Teslas approach and just use the gear lever to "start" the car, since the car already controls when the engine is running and when it isn't.

Its the first car I've had with it. Didn't realise it had been around for that long, I must have had too lower class cars

I prefer the whole key thing as I control exactly when my car stops and starts

But with a stop start system and automatic starting you don't anyway, it's just illusion of control...

Exactly, in the Octavia (like iwth most cars these days - and Volvo for the last 10+ years) there is no difference between a key & a start button.

The key doesn't actually control the starter motor, the ECU decides if it should wait for the glow plugs, when to crank, how long to crank, if the cranking should stop.

Its the same as pressing the button except you hold something instead of pressing something.

To get back on topic, my vRS also only does the dial-sweep ocaisonally.

It is the same with the vRS logo on the navigation.
