Electrical problems with my car

Featured Replies

Hi All, I;m new here and I need your advice. I have a Mk2 with about 100,000 on the clock. I have owned from new. I have repeated problems with the electrics of this car and no-one is able to fix these. I've had engine management lights coming on and staying on. My latest problem is that the turbo has cut out. I can drive the car but can't get much acceleration and can barely make 30 mph up the hill near to my home or on slip roads onto dual carriageways. None of the local garages can sort out these problems. They've tried and it's cost me roughly £1,500 so far with absolutely zero effect. The garages say that its an electrical fault but they can't tell where it is or how to fix it. The turbo has been checked over and is working perfectly but apparently it's not getting any electrical signal that would make it work when driving. What should I do? Does anyone know of someone competent at Skoda electrics preferably in central Scotland who could sort the problem out. Money is tight but I need a car so this is really. I can't afford to keep sending it abortively to garages. I've had fout Skodas over the years and they've all be excellent until this car. It has been truly terrible. I've never hammered it. I don't drive fast and it's dual carriageway almost all the way to work and back (60 miles a day). Thanks.

if you read the OP's original post again - it clearly states a 1.6 TDI Mk2  (which will be a CR) - with 100,000 on the clock.

At that sort of mileage, anything but everything could be on the blink - certainly the DPF should be checked out asap + the appropiate sensers. EGR also suspect in view of the mileage. The list is endless.

I had to give up with my CR90 TDI (just under 2 years old with 12500 on the clock) - same problem as the poster - the car spent more time in the garage than on the road. I bailed out and went for a 1.2 TSI following a very concessionary deal via the dealer and skoda.

Whilst at the dealers (after trade in) the car ran for approx 3-4 months with no problems - then whilst being transferred from one dealer site to another, it again went into limp mode!!!

This time Skoda authorized a complete rewire, which I am told finally fixed it. During my ownership, it had already been given a partial rewire under the bonnet.

Agreed, the poster should provide a lot more service and repair history

Sorry but the post does not clearly say that.

You might notice in the signature what the car is, but maybe not when on a phone.

it would be nice to get the fault code's from the garage or get your own code reader that way we can pretty much pinpoint the area into which to search for the issue,  your car sounds like its in limp mode my vrs has been in this mode and it pretty much disengages the turbo to prevent damage to your engine

Point taken - I confess that I have never thought about those that use their phones for internet viewing - so thanks for bringing this to my attention! This message is directed to FLAPPERJACK7 also - Like him, I would also be intrigued about the £1500 expenditure, looks like someone is working through an ongoing list of guessology at the posters expense.
