Is yours a 6v or 12v? On the 6v it's the bit under the engine cover on the 12v there is a separate pipe for it

thanks mate will check tomoz

HI, Guys,

I think your suggestions are also helpful for me too. It will be nice if one of you can put a picture showing where that rubber boot is , i got the same code and i think it's the same problem. Thanks a lot.

Item number 3 on this page.

That seal connects the airbox/engine cover to the throttle body (TB), which is item 5 in this diagram.  Apart from keeping out dust, the quality of the seal shouldn't be all that important here, unless it has collapsed in on itself as Toxicvrs seems to have experienced. There won't be a deep vacuum at any time above the throttle plate (unless the air filter is truly grim), so there won't be a big tendency for air to be pulled in past the sides of the seal.

I don't have a photo just now, but can take one later.

Don't worry if your car doesn't have item number 6. Only some of the engines covered by that illustration have that pipe. Not AZQ, and not BBY as far as I know.

update replaced egr and 02 sensor on warranty showing intermittent fault on both checked boot onto  throttle body looks ok  found a valve inside cover  cvp i think it is by breather pipe for rocker cover  spotted a slight leak in exhaust sorted that  run really good for a few hours then same fault returned  any ideas guys   done everything i can but still cant cure it and had a bad smell of petrol in car earlier

one thing i realize is that the rpm dropped then before when the car is idle and the response of the engine is slower then before after the p0171 showed up.

previously it was 1000rpm at idle, now it's around 800.

800 sounds more like normal.

The PCV can be (carefully) disassembled and cleaned/checked. The top bit is held on by a number of plastic ramp-catches around the edge. One check you could do before anything else is to find the little hole in the side of the PCV, and see if anything changes if you block this hole with your finger.  I'll try to put a photo up at lunchtime if you can't work out what I mean.

Great. I think i definitely need a picture for that. You remind me that  before the rpm dropped, I just experienced a strong shake when i switch to gear reverse and didn't press the clutch. maybe that shake caused something getting loose.

sorry for my typical new driver mistake.

Sorry bodie, I lost track of whose thread this was. I would suggest getting a compression test done, just to rule out any mechanical causes. Not sure what else to suggest, other than measuring battery voltage before and while engine is running, to rule out low-voltage as a cause of all these warning lights.

Crazybeeliuzhe, it's best if you start your own thread about your problems, and I can try to help you in there with pictures of the PCV.

i know this silly question changed all parts 90,per cent  new could faulty plugs and air filter be causing the problem

  • Sponsor

Got to be worth trying, as neither are expensive, and both are easily done. Start with the air filter if you don't know when it was last changed.

Won't take long to have a look at it. If it's grim, replace and see whether things improve.

wino put another one in not new improved slightly then light back on  now missing slightly and rev,s shooting up then dropping then finding its feet as they say  idle wise

Another what?

Please assume for a moment that we're not telepathic and communicate with us so we can help you.

If the air filter is a problem simply remove it altogether to see if it runs better.

If it's misfiring then I strongly suspect a coilpack, try swapping packs and see if the misfire changes cylinders.

put another not new air filter will get new one and plugs tomoz improved it slightly checked coil packs  in all 3 cylinders made no diffrence as problem is intermittent  and light back on code still saying p0171 fuel to lean intermittent fault between 02 sensor and egr valve but bothbrand new 02 is bosch and egr is pierburg
