VRS, 2.0TSI, DSG Judder on Idle, load and hesitates

Featured Replies

OK, where to start...

VRS, 61Plate, Sept 2011, 48k miles, DSG, Full Skoda SH, Coil Pack on injector 3 failed July 2014, replaced under warranty, no issues before nor for 6 months after coil pack replaced (Skoda refused to change all 4 as wasn't part of a recall)

So the reason for the Post:

Driving at 75mph on Dual carriageway 6 weeks ago, started to judder and on popped Check Engine Light and car started to shut down, within seconds EPC came on and car completely shut down with a nice puff of smoke out the back. AA did their usual, check codes, clear codes then investigate.

AA diagnosis:

Codes read:

P0303 - Combustion failure Cyl 3

P130A - Cylinder shut off

P0087 - Fuel rail pressure too low.

Cleared codes, tried to restart but nothing, further investigation and diagnosed injector 3 had failed open (wet spark, fuel in cylinder) so they dropped me off at Skoda for repair.

Skoda diagnosed the same (although didn't have codes) replaced injector 3 and returned car....

SINCE THEN there has been a random judder when on idle, sometimes starts straight away other times after about 30s, its almost like someone is kicking the car seat. Also, but not all the time, there is a hesitation and judder when accelerating 2000-3000 rpm - either off the line (not silly speeds) or 50mph+ in 6th

Mentioned the judder to Skoda (returned due to oil leak as they didn't put sump plug on properly) they read and cleared a code for 2nd lambda sensor (after cat) and sent me on my way.

Still juddered but no code so they recommended changing CAT and both Lambda's but they weren't 100% that this would fix. Emissions test was OK but theory was due to code and a hesitation during a test - No code has returned for this issue.

Having read coil packs could be an issue I swapped them around but and CEL came on pointing at Cyl 3 (again) so all in all Skoda have carried out the below:

  • Replaced Spark Plugs
  • Checked coil packs
  • Removed all injectors, cleaned swapped 1 & 3
  • Checked injector wiring loom
  • Checked Compression of all Cylinders
  • Updated ECU to latest firmware

Code has not returned but problem still exists but unfortunately the experts at the dealer need codes to do anything.

Finally, since last having it back from Skoda, I have plugged in BT OBD2 reader to Torque app on Android and there are no misfires showing, but there are a couple of Fails on O2 Bank 1 Sensor 1 (although there are also passes). I have attached a text file of the latest results from this.

Reading on here and other forums this has potential to be expensive just to rule out what it isn't so before spending out on new sensors, or anything else is anyone able to assist with this? Could the Lambda's be the cause of this? If so why isn't it coding? etc. etc.

(thanks for reading)

After drive to work this morning, 1h 04min and the same fail is showing on the O2 sensors but the misfire count on Cylinder 1 is also showing as 22 and a couple on the other Cylinders.

This number is much less than the number of "judders" experienced.

After 12 weeks of hassle, internet research, independent dealers and "no fault found" from 2 Skoda dealers, at cost risk to myself I insisted dealer #2 removed the intake manifold and checked the seals were fitted correctly and even if the injector was the correct part number.

As it happens, dealer #1 fitted the wrong injector for my car - fitted the 1.8 part not the 2.0.

Dealer #2 replaced with correct injector and have been driving it for 2 weeks with no issues at all

  • 5 months later...

You wouldn't expect that, hope you managed to recoup costs from dealer #1?

mines a but juggery on idle and hesitant to pick up on slow acceleration but I have no clear where to start looking!
