DSG paddle shift on Scout 1.8 TSI 2015?

Featured Replies

Anyway, I am now out of this thread as we have taken it off the original subject to which I now return.  Yes, I do think the steering wheel paddles enhance the driving experience with DSG and would not have a DSG equipped car without them.

+1, especially if you even only sometimes like to drive a little bit "sportier".

So at night on a UK motorway you would drive at less than 70mph?  How fast - 60, 50?  I don't believe you.  You would really drive assuming that there is a dark coloured object on the road?

On an unlit road, if I weren't able to use high beams, I would certainly slow down. If you can't avoid an obstacle when it enters your field of view, you're going too fast. And if I was at a stretch of road where my visibility was impaired, I would certainly have both hands on the wheel and keep the DSG in auto mode.

It's certainly a matter of preference. For me the ergonomy of the shifter is such an improvement on the previous generations, that I rather chose the 4 spoke steering wheel, for a more comfortable grip of the wheel. But it's definitely something everyone should try on a test drive before making the decision themselves.

So you WOULD drive at less than 70 on an unlit motorway?  The dark blue piece of metal on a dark grey road surface in the dark - I would have hit it if driving at 40!

Back to origin topic, sort of.  You are certainly right regarding the comparison of 3-spoke and 4-spoke steering wheels.  I find on a 3-spoke wheel the 'upper' two spokes are usually placed just where I wish to wrap my fingers around the wheel.

I most definitely would. Not doing so would be like invite for a moose to ruin your day...and possibly life.

a moose k...no lets not go there..

To be fair road conditions in the UK (for most part) and central europe are nothing like your conditions up north and thus the way people learn to drive and assess danger is completely different. I'm pretty sure most of us would crash within a few miles in even the mildest scandinavian weather. The worst thing you will hit on motorways around here (apart obviously from cars and people) are probably dogs, cats and maybe bambi.

And debris - mainly from trucks.

Lifting this old thread - has anyone made this retrofit yet and is bolt-on with only coding or do I need a new control module etc?
