leakong radiator help please

Featured Replies

ok so had a few problems with my car( see my other thread)  had them all fixed and today the radiator thing has started leaking i drove 10 mins and its used a full tank of water stuff...... is the only option to get a new radiator, if so how much will this cost the man at the garage did state last time i was in that it was corroded on the bottom right of the grill thing , and thats where all the flufid is leaking from. ive been ripped off at my last garage so need advice of roughly how much this will cost and time to fix thanks all :)

best advice is get it pressure tested to see if there are any more leaks,  you dont wanna pay for a radiator fitting and then get halfway home and its lost all coolant again

You are really having no luck at all with yon motor quine, are you? {maggie}

I'd agree with the advice to have it pressure tested first.

What a pressure test and how much will it be , also if I were to sell this car how much should I ask for bearing in mind its a pile of cr#p haha , back to getting the bus everywhere will a pressure test show any more problems ?

yeah a pressure test checks where there are leaks causing pressure loss which you would not see,  best thing to do is get another fabia like a 1.2 or another 1.4,  if you are gunna spend too much money on this one and its not worth it.

Ok Il get that done , is it expensive for the test ? Wont be buying a new one anytime soon as iv spent all my money buying this and already spent 400 fixing it . I'm totally gutted x

tbh i dont think there that expensive id say around £20 best thing to do is ask a garage and see what they say.  hopefully get it sorted and the either keep it or sell and buy another fabia

I have a second hand one with a fan on, would just need swapping in. I'm happy to let you have it for the price of postage if you're interested?

Aww that's lovely updown but I would have no idea how I would put it on I'm so fed up I don't even know what garage to take it to now as iv had bother with the last two

You could take it to a garage to be fitted, where abouts are you based?

That's often the way retired fitters come over, after a working life of listening to male bovine faeces about how "I was driving along ant it just went bang" when it's been run dry of oil for 200 miles!

Changing a rad is not a 5 minute job fyi. It's not hard, but time consuming!

yes thats what im worried about, if the labour is going to be really expensive

It takes about an hour, I'm sure he won't charge too much :)

Pretty sure it cost about 120 for mine the other year including a new rad, max 160

nightmare to change mine was leaking I was lucky enough to win a brandnew ali 1 off ebay for £30! :)

id try and help if you were a bit closer.  tbh like said above a 1.4 engine would be quite accessible

thanks , im hoping he will do it but dont know if he will. just went out and theres a massive puddle under it   its coming from bottom right corner where its rusty

sounds like the rust had got in an caused the radiator to leak on the bottom right corner. just ask him to have  a look and being a retired fitter he will know what he is on about etc

yeah its corroded in that bit and thats where its coming from  x
