Octy Mk2 to Rapid

Featured Replies

Has anyone done this??

We have a Mk2 Octy 1.6TDi and am considering chopping it in as we are near the end of our PCP deal.

Don't think i can stretch to an Octy Mk3 but was considering a Rapid Spaceback maybe?

Had a drive of the SE sport with 1.6tdi engine and really liked it.

£1500 deposit contribution from Skoda and 0% interest on offer too.

So if anyone has made this jump i would love to hear from you.

I've gone from a 56 reg Octavia 1.9tdi I had for 7 years (from new) to a Citigo and then soon after to a Rapid TSi.

Both Octavia and Rapid being 105 bhp I find not much difference in power except the quick PD punch[emoji15] briefly.

Being a long term diesel owner I'm still trying to get used to petrol mpg but I guess they'll never be as good.

RIP 1.9 and no thanks to the 1.6 [emoji57]

Interesting. Thanks for this. I really like the 1.6 tdi. But it seems to not be a favourite with some. Why is this?

Hi

You'll find that a mk3 Octy is maybe more within reach then you think. The residuals are soooo poor on rapid that unless you get a massive discount, it will be as expensive ( or sometimes more expensive ) than the equivelant Octavia on PCP.

Choose carefully and the residual will be strong on Octavia and hey presto -

E.g. Octavia 1.6tdi estate Elegance.

The combination of estate, diesel and higher spec is the way to go for residuals. Elegance often works out same price as SE and it's a far better place to be.

Hope this helps

The thing is. The dealer I visited yesterday wants £200+ per month for a spaceback l. Plus a.Bit of a deposit on top of any equity left in my current Octy. It's just too much in my opinion. Maybe I am being naive but I thought I would have had a chance of handing my.current one back and getting a mk3 for £200 a month or less.

1.2 TSi ( I get 40 mpg), SE, manual hatch available for £209 down and £209 PCM at the minute. Depending how much equity you've got and if you're willing to part with even a tiny deposit, you'll get that down to well below £200.

Don't discount asking them to buy your car in and going down the personal contract hire route. We've a new Octavia vRS tdi combi coming in 2 weeks time which is £230 PCM including the vat on a 3+35 profile.

Our rapid sport is £122 a month for three years. Then around 5k buy off.

That's all very well but how much deposit did you put in. By the sounds of it, the OP doesn't particularly want to do that.

It was our golf, which worked out at just under 4k.

Got 3k off the RRP, but added lots of extras.

Currently haggling over a few quid with Mazda on a deal for a Mazda 3 SE-L. So will see what happens there.

I originally put a similar deposit as the poster above down on our Octy. Got the VAT and Skoda deposit contribution back then too so it was a good deal imho. I guess the new Octy's are more expensive so thats what is making a similar deal impossible for me a guess. Not prepared to put 4k in every few years. Maybe a couple of k but thats it.

I went from a passat to a 62 plate toledo which I hated every mile of and now back in a 12 plate octavia estate! Rapid/toledo's are garbage in my opinion. But that's a taxi drivers opinion

...cos its rough as rats.  Drive a 1.2 TSi and the difference is amazing. Its smooth, quiet and, with 100kg less over the front wheels, handles and rides better too.

The early Rapedos had shocking suspension & poor steering too.  Things improved a lot from autumn 2013 onwards.

Where does that data come from mate?

Auto express tested an optioned up Rapid SE and reckoned it would retain 40.6% after 3 years which is pretty good I think. The Toledo was slightly worse at 40.0%

What Car gave the Rapid Sport 40.8% - and that was based on retail price, so with discounts the residual percentage would be a fair bit higher.
