I bought a Mazda 6 2.0 TS2 today :)

I'll post more pics tomorrow when I've sorted them, but I pick it up on Wednesday and my much-loved Mark I Superb will be finding a new owner.

I've been looking for an estate for ages and on a limited budget so this was perfect. Full 12-month warranty, 12-month AA breakdown cover, full service and 12-month MOT and they gave me a pretty good trade in on the Superb.

I'd originally planned to see a TS at a Jag/Aston Martin dealer but had a quick recheck on Autotrader before I left the house and this had just come up. I thought I could see the two of them in the same day so phoned the Jag guy to check it was still OK but he said he was really busy and could I call in later? Well, I've paid a deposit mate and we arranged a time so I'll go see the TS2 first and might or might not get over to you.

Well the Mazda dealer in Brighton had no trouble seeing me and I spent a good two hours there test driving, talking, drinking tea and we did the deal. If Mr Jag's too busy to see a customer who's paid a deposit and arranged a time then tough, although I was looking forward to sitting in a few AMs and XKRs.

Anyway, the TS2 was the one I really wanted with 17" alloys, Bluetooth and 6-CD changer. Plus they offered more for my Superb and the sticker price was £500 lower for a higher spec car, the same age and with all the same benefits.

I'm looking forward to turning Japanese ;)

Oh, and quick question, would you bother getting the AGlaze paint and interior protection for £275?

Keep the £275 and put it to better use.

Do it yourself ! Or have a word with chris the briskoda detailing guru

Missus has got its little sister - Mazda 3TS - seems pretty bombproof

Like buying a proper spare wheel and jack instead of the stupid foam ;)

Was hoping for a plastic surgery thread :(

I was thinking of the song.

It is pretty and it is bombproof.

I've put 108,000 miles on mine without anything significant.

How much of a Mazda is actually Japanese and how much is Ford these days?

Not much ! Son works at fords

I wondered that too but according to Wiki the companies split in 2010 so maybe less than there used to be.

Neighbour has a 2.2d and tours Europe towing a pretty big caravan, he loves his and has had no bother.

Well it was either a Mazda 6 or Ford Mondeo so I guess I got a bit of both. Here's some more pics:

I *think* the platform and quite a bit of under the skin stuff is ford as it was developed whilst still under fords control. The engines are Ford units (the diesels at least)

Good solid cars though, and better to drive than the Mondeo.

Good choice!

I only buy a Mazda with 2 seats, yours looks good though, always liked the later styled models.

Don't know what engines these have, mine is a Ford 2ltr, it's a robust unit as long as the oil is kept to the max level.

Handsome car!

Handsome car!

Indeed, at least it has some character and presence to it, compared to most of the competition, lovely sweeping lines

I hope the later Mazda models have better rust protection.

Nearly every Mazda 6 I've seen has rusty arches, front and rear.

I can't remember exactly when it was now but on the original 3 (2003 - 2008) there was a recall/tech bulletin to add extra protection under the rear arches so I'd assume they became aware of the problem and did try to rectify it on later models.

I hope the later Mazda models have better rust protection.

I had a Mazda 6 diesel estate some years ago. A handsome car but the rear wheel arches rusted like a bugger. Mazda UK didn't want to know and then the diesel pump failed (a common fault apparently) which again didn't want to know about.

We also had a Mazda 323. A cracking little car with a spirited 1.8 dohc engine, alas the rear wheel arches were affected with chronic rusting. I'd have kept the car if it wasn't for the rot.

Sadly, this put me off Mazda for life.

I hope they've sorted themselves out as your Mazda 6 looks like a cracking motor.

Good luck.

Unfortunately the 2.2d in the 6 are Mazdas own engine, hence I had to have the timing chain replaced in December because of its shoddy design, I wish it was the ford tdci unit, it would be so much better!

They are good motors, things I would check for is stone chips on the roof that are starting to go rusty and drivers seat movement both of which are common place over the mazda 6 range. I think the estate is one of the best looking estates around that are just let down by silly little things.

Its strange.. when released i didnt like that shape mazda6, but now it looks great.

The latest one looks fantastic though.

FIL recently swapped the MIL's A1 for a new shape mazda3 diesel, he has an 07 #3 himself, which has been bombproof, despite having that hit and miss 1.6 ford/peugot diesel block. Mazda fixed that thing to work properly... and the 142 plate, 2.2diesel recent edition is fantastic. Havnt gottotake it for a decent spin yet, but reports are its "lovely and smooth" <-- quote MIL
