Where's best to get one? Not sure what I want yet but been tempted for a while.

What he said.

If you're buying a previously un released one, the DVLA is all in - other places will charge "the same" as the dvla but then add on £80 transfer fee + vat

eg right now on dvla - V121SJD £399 all in, same on http://www.eliteregistrations.co.uk £375 + vat + £105 dvla fees (i make that £555)

I was looking a 14 plate on DVLA before it came out the other year one of those reserve in advance ones. £599 all in Regtransfers can do the same service and were the ones I initially got an email off about it offering me it for £1600. I didn't bother and it was on regtransfers for £14K a few months later. Total joke!

Hmm £250 for one to whack on the Clio as a direct replacement

DVLA direct is the best way.

The other sites claim to be cheaper but then add on things so are not.

Because they just buy from the DVLA anyway.

If you want a plate listed at a dealer then you need to start the negotiation process.  Never pay the listed price.

I had a plate I was after so I spoke to the DVLA and they said it was unreleased.  They took an email address and said they would make contact if it was to be release.  After about a year I got an email to say it was going to auction.

I was the only bidder.  The plate is on my car now M47 DES.  My real name is Matt Desmond.  Sad I know.

Iv got two :) one for the car and one for the motorbike  :D try looking at the unregistered ones to get a good deal but it will mean buying a new car :D

The plate would have my initials but had a look on the DVLA site and there's not much.
