Fabia VRS Tyre Life

Featured Replies

What sort of life can I expext to get out of a swt of tyres on my Fabia VRS?

Its almost dond 15k and the front ones are very low on tread, Iv just swapped front and back round to try and prolong their live a little longer.

I was hoping to get more distance than this out of a pair of tyres. I dont drive the car particularly hard and dont really push it round corners and roundabouts.

Any suggestions on a decent alternative tyre when I do get them replaced which will give a reasonable life, but not adversly affect its handeling?

I've just got around 10k out of my Toyo T1-R's on the front of my remapped Fabia vRS. They have just reached the wear markers.

The rears are like new.

I got through the standard tyres quicker than that (Michelin Primacy)!

Just worn out in time for me hibernating my Porsche wheels for the winter!

Bring on the winter wheels! :)

If you trundle around then they'll last for 20,000. BUT you bought the car for performance didnt you!? Expect 10,000 to 15,000. It also depends on the compound of rubber

Was hoping to get more than around 15k out of them as I tend to drive fairly steadily.

The main reason for buying the car was for the economy after a few years of 25mpg in my Honda Accord, the performance to me is just for fun to look in the rear view mirror at the poser in his Beemer stearing at the Skoda Badge when he comes up behind flashing his lights then looking at his face as you leave him with a cloud of black smoke in the distance.

On a more seriouse note any suggestions on a good long lasting trye?

Has anyone tried Bridgestone's Potenza RE720s (V)?

Pete

Just about to replace my Continental Sport Contact 2's with almost 14K on them.

Not bad, but I didn't like them as they were too hard wearing & not enough grip.

Toyo T1-R's are going on tomorrow.

Contis here as well - fronts may just scrape through the 20k service (due in a few hundred miles).

The rears are still fine - I won't swap them out. I do occasionally go for it a bit, but generally I drive motorway stuff except for stints into Oxford to pick up SWMBO, and some B-roading say once a week.

I reckon the rears should easily do 40k, fronts 20k at a push.

Once I get the ok from the insurance the brakes, FMIC, exhaust & Eibachs are going on. I'm kinda hoping to make the tyres last till then. Remap next year unless the insurance gets swapped about :)

Toyo T1-r's for me when I change. Had em on my Evo and they were very good.

I have noticed that tyres seem to be a very personal choice though?

Cheers

I get round 10 to 11K out of the P Zero Neros on the front of mine.

I got 4000 miles from the Bridgestones, athough i had a camber issue which prematurly wore away at the sidewall. I actually spoke to Skoda and they didn't think the ware was excessive and reminded me 'that it is a sports car'. Laughable really.

So i had some Eagle F1 GSD3's fitted and they have done 6k + 1 track day, i would expect another 4-5k out of them. I think the rears, Bridgestones again, will do another 10k [total 20k].

Good tyre !!!

I've been doing too much motorway work

20,000 miles and the fronts have 5mm on them while the backs still have 7mm. The measurements come from the dealer rather than me. I tend to use the acceleration in a straight line but that's about it.

I got 30k out of the front and the back are still going strong. I mustn't be using it properly:)

My conti's were at about 5mm for 10k service and don't look much worse now, though most of my miles are steady speed motorway.

I'll bet the MK boys go through them with all those roundabouts

Khumo Ecsta's

Probably worth swapping front with rear tyres around 8k miles to wear all 4 tyres out before changing all 4 tyres to a different brand IMO.

My work car (Toyota Corolla diesel) front tyres (Dunlop) lasted for 30k before I changed them and I drive that with little sympathy! Must be a hard compound!

Got about 4mm left on my Michelin Primacy fronts, with 13k gone. But they're a bloody hard compound I think and I bought the car at 6k :)

I'd look to the Ecstas (as mentioned earlier) or maybe the Uniroyal Rainsports? Heard good things about the Eagle F1s but maybe a little too soft for you?

Depends what you're after really. If you want a grippy tyre, it'll be a softer compound so they'll wear quicker. Don't think you can have it both ways :) e.g. had a pair of Avon ZZ3s on the front of my Focus - great tyre, but they were getting near for a change when I sold it, having done 8k
