62 plate Octy Vrs to 62 plate Fabia Vrs 1.4Tsi DSG

Featured Replies

Evening all...

Its been ages since i posted on here,so HELLO.

Quick question...

Currently driving a Green Octy Vrs,62 plate and today drove a 62 plate Fabia Vrs 1.4 Tsi DSG,estate.

****,that Fabia can go.....

Question is would any body change down to the Fabia from the Octy??

Its at a main dealer......

Thing is theres a few horror stories on here regarding the Tsi and DSG.

Cheers all.....

I haven't heard any horror stories on here regarding the DSG but you are right the engine has abit of a reputation, they aren't all bad tho, we are on our second and neither has any problems. The majority are fine.

Oil use is the main issue.

I would pay attention to two things.

1- make sure you have an extended warranty

2- past history of warranty claims. Ring skoda uk to find out the cars background. If there has been any history of oil consumption tests I'd walk away.

If the car you are looking at is on the later CTHE engine code (rather than the CAVE) it will be much less likely to have problems. The estate vRS is quite a rare car and very practical too!

I went from a pd170 vrs to a Fabia , it's been great , the Fabia is a lively little thing

Is the engine code different on certain years, and the code will be on the vin plate?

Cheers

I went from a 170CR VRS to a 1.2Tsi and haven't regretted it at all! Power is the obvious elephant in the room, but isn't unbareable. Size wise, the cabin is designed to be higher up to make use of space, again, fine! I enjoy the Fabia, it feels like a little nimble car in comparison to the rather heavy Octavia.

I personally steered clear from the VRS as the engine is notoriously ****. The Fabia forum is often filled with stories of the CAVE (early engines) going bang, huge oil consumption and engine replacements. im sure some people are also on about the CTHE starting to flounder too. Octavia was bulletproof, so not looking to argue with dealers every few months about problems.

Oh, the wife has an estate Monte Carlo estate. The octavia was an estate and we don't want for much room! Very practical, if a bit ugly car.

The engined changed from a cave to a CTHE on the fabia.

The CTHE is improved

What year is it you're looking at? Will it come with any warranty?

I'll send George a PM. Its his specialist subject (:

Is George okay? Noticed hes not been posting much lately.

Hi.

Its a 62 plate,Sept 2012,it will have warranty,it is at a main Skoda dealer.

Cheers..

Could be a CAVE or CTHE to be honest thats kinda where they swapped over , you will need to check the paperwork its on the V5

I'd be tempted to buy the extra warranty as well its about £500 , you might get the dealer to contribute

Yeah the engine changed over in late 2012 so it's possible the car you are looking at could have either. I think there is a sticker somewhere in the engine bay maybe near the ECU which has the code on. Mine is also stamped in the service book I think.

Ouch that's quite a chunky ban, didn't realise he had said anything offensive!

Same. Hes been good lately from what I've seen.

Wonder what he did...

There is a Sticker at the bottom of the drivers door pillar.

Says  CAVE  or CTHE

But then the buyer needs to check if the CAVE or CTHE is the same engine as the factory fitted.
or a replacement.
