Boost Gauge help

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Ive recently bought a VRS TDi and may be picking up a boost gauge early next week, Could someone please point me in the right direction into how I install it when it comes? (preferably with pictures)

I havent got a EGR delete as of yet but may be getting one later on, Is there a way of fitting it with the egr still in and if so what pipe do I need to splice into.

Thanks in advance

Brad

If it's a mechanical style boost gauge then you'll need to drill and tap a fitting into any of the boost pipes on the engine side of the turbo (egr etc.)

Then you just need to run the tube through into the dash

Hi Mate,

Yeah its a needle one and so any of the 4mm pipes that currently go into the EGR or anywhere else are OK to splice into? would it be worth getting a T joint and just having one of them instead of cutting a hole in the pipe to run the gauge hose from?

p.s I have never worked on anything turbo related before so I am totally new to it all, so excuse anything that I don't explain properly or if I don't quite understand what you are speaking about lol.

Thanks

No they are all vacuum pipes operating on seperate vacuum system which gets the vacuum created by the vacuum pump.

You need to put a fitting into one the main intake pipes after the turbo.

I would wait until you delete egr tbh.

Another thing to think about is alot of mechanical boost gauges get needle flicker, and you need to fit some sort of damper/filter in line to get a decent steady reading.

Hi Oswestry,

ok wicked i will wait until i pick up my EGR delete as ive seen a few that have got the fittings for the vacuum hose to come off of it and as for the needle flicker, yeah i have heard of this before, I think i saw someone say something like you can pick up a filter from the aquarium to stop pipe shake and needle flicker?

Cheers
