Boot lid not popping open as it should.

Featured Replies

So I've had this problem pretty much since I had the car, only lately it's a lot worse... only working properly maybe 10% of the time.

Basically when holding the middle button down to pop the boot oopen it only opens a lightly,  causing me to have to put a finger underneath to gently lift it up.

I have done a search for my answer, which returned no results.  Is there an easy fix for this? I don't see anything down the sides of the boot seating to adjust it.

Don't get me wrong it's not a major issue or anything,  more like a mild annoyance.  But would really like to get this fixed asap.

Thanks in advance!

Ohh I should mention as well, this is the hatch!

Ohh I should mention as well, this is the hatch!

I do notice that the hatch has to be gently pushed on cold mornings alright but that's no big deal and just down to the temperature.  I think I remember seeing it referred to in the owners manual actually where below 4 degrees or thereabouts, the boot mechanism might not work to its optimal level.

Does it open okay using the button on the hatch itself or is it just the fob - I assume by 'middle button' you are referring to the fob?  Does it open fully once you assist it open and stay open by itself?  If not (and I don't think this is your problem BTW) then it maybe one or more of the gas struts that need to be replaced.  I had to get one replaced on my 2014 after only a few months and that was the first sign that I had an issue.

Also, if you're using the fob I assume you are opening the boot part only and not the hatch as the hatch part will need to be pushed up manually (similar to an Octavia hatch).

Had the same problem. 2pcs of boot struts 3T5827552 were replaced and everything is fine again now. About 1 hour job.

If its the boot only on the hatch, I have put it down to the cold, when its warm it always open all the way, out of interest how easy is it to change the struts for the boot opening? not the large hatch struts!

Mine were covered under warranty but it was a quick job.  It got to the point where the boot would open but then force itself closed (due to the faulty strut) and if you weren't expecting it, you might get a bit of fright or a bump on the head !  I should also add that there was fluid leaking as well when the strut started giving trouble. If you are replacing anything like that, its best to replace in pairs of course!

Škoda service changed struts and therefore I don't know exactly how easy is the changing job. I was told too that cold might be the reason but I still decided to let them change the struts and now boot opens more or less like catapult compared with old behavior even when some minuses are outside. Old struts were for sure worn- there was some metal friction noise inside when I tested them after replacement. At least I'm satisfied

Yup, ours doesn't open every time in the cold weather. Was perfect in the summer. No big deal really.

The boot lid will not lift fully once the e temp is under 4 degrees. Its in the manual.
