Goodbye VRS SE Hello new car

Featured Replies

Well after owning the Fabia VRS SE Limited Edition for nearly 8 years, The time came to trade it in for something new. The SE was the most fun car I have ever owned, and it was extremely reliable, and a hoot to drive.

So it was off to the dealer and look for something new.

Decided on this

Ex Demo, 2088 miles, first registered September 2014 Octavia Mk3 2.0 CR VRS.

I think I got a good deal, 14K after trade in and ex demo discount. I've only had this car a day and a half, but I am really liking it.

The ride comfort is way better than the VRS SE, plus of course, loads of toys, and it came fully loaded as an ex demo.

Obviously heavier on fuel, at 1.4 tons it's no light weight. Sticks to the road well, and fast enough for an old geeser like me.  :D

Good excuse to buy a new mobile phone as well. Love those toys.

Nice.

I'd be exactly in the same boat myself, the only difference is I'd go for petrol rather than Diesel (just makes more sense for me personally),

and I think I'll wait until the prices are a lot more accomodating !!

I honestly didn't know what to buy after the SE. I'm doing low mileage, but the diesel engine is pretty much known to be bullet proof. Not a fan of the TSi engines at all. More than a few oil consumption issues, and timing chain tensioner failures for my liking. All I knew was it had to be white (sick of dark colours and white primer for stone chips) reasonably quick, with the MQB platform. Considered going back to VW, but the VW dealer in my area is pants.

I thought the consumption issues tarnished moreso the twin turbo 1.4 gtis and mkII vrs ?

First I've heard of significant known issues with the TFSI as a 2.0 configuration, I know however the 1.4TSI (twin only, the vRS) is meant to be a bit of an oil-sucker.

My father actually recently bought the TSI and has gone through 2 Tsi's (the 1.8 though granted) through trade ins with main dealers and never mentioned any issues with the oil.

Yes you are correct, I am well out of touch with the complete range of engines, and known problems. I just got sick of cars in general, and sort of lost touch. I'm just not a huge fan of engines that have two really fast spinning bits (Turbo and Super Charger)  :D I'm not a huge fan of DPF equipped diesels either, but I had to buy something.

I think the 1.8 TSi had a brief spell of dodgy tensioners, but not that many cars were effected.

Life was simpler when I did more miles in the Morris 1000 Traveller, but that got sold 18 months ago. Suddenly, when you hit 60 years of age, lying on a cold garage floor doing oil changes and greasing trunnions, isn't fun any more.

Nice i do like the mk3 octavia

It hit me at 45, sick to death of it, don't mind working on my feet but writhing around on the ground gets really tiresome, very happy to pay someone to do that for me.

Absolutely, I hated the look of the MK2 Fabia, Rapid was sort of OK. Nice to see sharp lines again.

I bought the Moggy when I was 48, shows you how stupid I am...

I'm only a few years behind you but share these sentiments whole heartedly. Did a front spring on my sons Corsa six weeks ago and spent the best part of a fortnight aching all over. Getting old is a b1tch.

Fortunately they only tried that with the 1.4 TSI in the Skoda Fabia vRS (and Ibiza, Polo and Golf got it too). The 1.2, 1.8, 2.0 TSI are all turbo only, and you can get the 1.4 TSI as a turbo only too. Bloody stupid naming convention if you ask me!
