front head rest removal

Featured Replies

Help does anyone know how to remove the front head rests , so that I can fit seat covers.

Is there not a button where the metal stalks enter the seat at all, cant say uve noticed if there is or not?

May bot be possible to remove them for safety reasons perhaps...might be that the O3 has active restraints as they are becomming more common now?

From my manual (p.88) it strongly suggests that the front head restraints cannot be removed.  It actually says:

"Only the real head restraints may be removed or installed."

but my assumption is that "real" is a mis-print for "rear"!

Also - the combination of seat covers and a seat-mounted side airbag may lead to some nasty unintended consequences in the event of an accident.

Yep it appears its not possible. No detatchment buttons, only headrest height adjustment.

I'm guessing they are fixed for good reason or perhaps they are active in some way?

True that, but the original seat material already has some stitches anyway?

You can remove the front head rests, I did it to get a flat (ish) base to load some wood into the car.

If you push the material down around the plastic bit on the top of the seat, there is a small button you can push with a screwdriver which will allow them to come out. You have to do it for both supports, but it's possible with a bit of fiddling.

Like he said. It took a while to find them and sort - while getting **** wet thru at IKEA.
