Internet dealers etc.

Featured Replies

So I've been playing about with the internet brokers like carwow and drive the deal with a few different cars. I was originally going to change both my mk2FL Octavia and the Citigo for a mk3 Octavia, but the spec I'm after isn't that cheap. So after reading on here lately and playing with other cars I've found that some brands that would be normally out of reach, are in near the budget.

For example the best price I've managed to get as a confirmed price is as follows:

Skoda Octavia vRS estate - £ 33085.00 (yes every option ticked)

I know I can get a standard with a few extras for a lot less, but this got me thinking....what about Audi, BMW and Mercedes......or even SEAT?

Mercedes C220 AMG Line - £35600 (with all options taken)

SEAT Leon ST Cupra (sub8) - £30260 (with all options ticked)

BMW 2 Series touring ranging from £34-36k depending on engine.

I know the Merc will cost more to run and service and size wise the Octavia beats it easy. But 3 star badge for only just over £2k more.....it's tempting.

Anyone else found some tempting offers out there? Would anyone be tempted away from Skoda to Mercedes?

I wouldnt be tempted towards merc myself. They are cheaper than they were (many seem tempted by their cheap finance deals, and theyre cheap as company cars too) but i also dont see them as a premium brand anymore.

Also read not so long ago that merc had the worse customer service at the moment. How true it is i dont know, not had any experiences myself.

Id be much more tempted for a nice BMW or Audi.

Audi customer service?

Is there supposed to be a link? Hahs

The op's comparison is somewhat wrong. What I mean by that is that the standard Merc C Class actually comes loaded with kit the other manufacturers treat as options.

You therefore may find that by comparing specifications that the Merc comes out cheaper.

I know it sounds daft, but go and have a look and see for yourself.

One thing that will be noticeable is the artico seats..... Basically fake leather, they come as standard.... However I could not tell the difference between artico and leather when sat on them.

With the delays in the Mk3 Octavia vRS builds - some people were switching over to the A6 ultra. Audi were kicking out some serious deals on these.

MrCellotape the Merc has epic amounts of kit as standard. It really is value for money.

Don't get me wrong I want to stay with Skoda but Mercedes is very tempting.

Also is the A6 which is also very heavily discounted.

I agree totally.

I'm however coming from Merc to Skoda, currently waiting prep of my pre-reg VRS.

I'm very impressed with the build quality of the latest Octavia and can see a large saving being made on my monthly payments/servicing.

There's little in it with regards to dealer treatment.

The main bonus is going to be having a car I can get off the drive when it snows!

I came from Merc to Skoda , the cars are ok but all my local dealers were dire, but i fear Skoda dealers arent as good as they were a few years ago neither are Skoda (MK) themselves, although the cars are better than ever.

A colleague of mine was changing his Superb for new Superb through an Internet dealer. He ended up with a Mercedes E300 hybrid for £4k more than the Superb combi that he was going to buy.

Maybe I should just hold off until the octavia gets a decent discount?
