Upgrading the radio to all the bells n'whistles

Featured Replies

Straight to the point- which Skoda multimedia ICE units will fit the double DIN fitting on a 2010 Roomster SE?

My car has a Swing CD radio but can it be fitted with something with GPS/Bluetooth etc such as the Skoda Amundsen or similar?

Tim

In short yes. I've fitted a VW RCD310 DAB, although other units will fit.

I had no need for an inbuilt Sat nav, or anything more than one CD slot as all music is on my phone, but having the addition of DAB was good.

More or less plug and play with the addition of a foil DAB aerial on the windscreen.

Do you have a link to the aerial and was it Arsey to fit

Is coding required or just plug and play

You can basically fit any stereo you want. They will all work.

The Amundsen+ will give you sat-nav, Bluetooth (not all have the Bluetooth built in so be sure to check), DAB (again not all do so check), SD slot.

The Columbus will give you sat-nav, DAB (on certain models), SD slot and then for Bluetooth you need an extra module.

The Columbus has a larger screen and is generally a better unit but more expensive. The maps and software can be easily upgraded on the Columbus but not on the Amundsen+.

Do you have maxidot display?

Here you go.

No coding required. Aerial was easy to fit, just fed the cable in behind the A Pillar trim, behind dash into back of stereo.

I have a couple of teething issues with mine, although I suspect that is to do with the Parrot hands-free loom wiring vs the stereo.

It doesn't switch off with ignition which I'm sure is a case of swapping a wire over. It does switch itself off after 30mins if I forget!!

No maxi dot on mine

I would like to add that once I can find a binnacle cheap enough

Thanks Phil,

Maxidot is not fitted.

I want to rid myself of the GPS on the windscreen and upgrade the ICE at the same time, hence the question.

I just need to find a suitable unit and someone to fit it.

I too was fed up with the sat-nav on the windscreen and cables running everywhere!

They are dead easy to fit. Just four screws, unplug the old one, plug in the new one and you're done!

You might not even need any coding doing as you don't have maxidot.

Yes, and still is. I removed it to repaint in Urban Camouflage for weight saving ;) about 18 months ago and have never finished it :giggle: It does fit back as nature intended it though

Hi,

The Columbus unit is in and working. One feature that is missing is Bluetooth, how do I upgrade to this option?

More questions -

What is the purpose of the SD card, is it for map data?

I need travel maps of central Europe, is it worth buying the CDs offered on Ebay?

Good point I posted without thinking

Just being nosey thats all

Probably going to go down the 310 route as I'm not bothered about nav just dab plus its only leased so trying to keep the costs down

Unless anyone has any other suggestions to what sets will fit a brand new roomster

A definitive list of compatible sets would be nice

Now that the image has been posted, is there any chance of my queries being answered?

Ive been doing some digging as Im thinking of a similar addition to mine. You need a seperate Bt module, seen them on ebay this afternoon but didnt take note of the price. I searched ebay for skoda columbus and found the modules. Also seen a mdi module which looks like you can plug your phone straightin to it using the data port on your phone but this may be over kill due to the bluetooth.

Not sure if maxidot is needed though. Im only guessing but would the sd card reader be for music files?

I think the SD is for music does it have 2 slots

Did you have to fit anything else to make the columbus work or was it just straight plug n pray?

You have to add a separate GPS aerial unless you don't want it to work.

And

There is no Bluetooth, you need a module.

The SD card can be used to either play music directly, or as a means of loading music onto the in built hard drive. The maps are stored on the hard drive also (different partition) so not related to the SD card.

The discs for sale on ebay are copies. There's a genuine V12 maps disc for sale in the classifieds section (mine).

  • 3 weeks later...
