Questions considering Fabia vRS order

Featured Replies

I'm going to order a new Fabia vRS within a few days, and I would like to ask some questions I have been wondering about, and preferrably from people with real experience, so here I am:

-Are xenon headlights worth the extra price? A local magazine tested them, and weren't impressed at all about their range.

-If I tick the 'ESP' box, is the system COMPLETELY off-switchable, in other words, when you switch ESP off, you're totally in control with no interference what so ever?

-Is there a satisfying chip solution that WON'T be detectable by service mechanics? Tuning boxes can't be detected if you take them away for service time, but are chip manufacturers to be trusted when they claim their eprom chip won't show on the service tester?

Any other points I should consider? All feedback is welcome!

Thanks!

Maybe - range can be easily adjusted and feedback on here is that they're excellent. However, I was quite happy with my uprated halogen bulbs :D

Nope - pretty sure it's always there in the background.

All chip solutions are visible if you know what to look for (or if you test drive the car!). The closest you can get is a switchable map, but these ain't cheap! FYI, tuning boxes can also be detected as they may log fault codes and it might also be suspicious that there's always a clean patch in the engine bay ;)

Any other points? What colour are you going to get? :D

Chris

yes they are worth it i miss not having them when i switched from clio 172 to vrs altho you can get good bulbs for the halogen lights

dont have it

and all remaps are detectable even the non detectable ones

Welcome to Briskoda!

You appear to have made a nice choice of car!

I have xenons and TOTALLY rate them highly, worth every penny. They came set a little low, but the dealer adjusted them at my request, and now they are great!

I think the ESP does stay on in the background, although having never driven one with ESP, I can't really comment.

And as others have said, remaps are detectable if you know what you are looking for. And of course your insurance company would need to be informed. ;) However, most dealers won't be worried about a remap, as long as nothing goes wrong with the engine! (I don't think any members have needed warranty work doing on remapped engines here  )

I know one of the Octy boys has and it was refused because the car was modified.......... I also know Hellfire had some issues when his gearbox broke ... not sure how that was resolved :)

Chris

I've got Xenons and apart from them being set a bit low initially i'm glad I got them as I do a lot of night driving.

ESP can be switched off, there's a button on the dash and when it is off you get an indication of this to warn you it is off.

Thanks guys, those were some quick replys!

As for the colour, it's gonna be lemon yellow

About ESP, no-one here have that? I realise that you can switch the ESP off,

but in many cases that doesn't completely neuter the system, i.e. it will still

activate under more severe slides.

The question is will the car still be enjoyable on the track as well?

I wouldn't pay for the ESP because of me, I want to be in control, but I'd like

the added safety for the better half...

About the factory tinted rear windows (the hatch window and rear doors), does that look 'ricey', or is it subtle enough? Thought it would be nice.

Only way to completely turn off the ASR or ESP if fitted is to remove the fuse! The factory tints are green in colour and not Max Powerish at all, TBH only notice they are there when driving on a sunny day and see the green shadow on the road from the glass!!!

Mmmm Yellow! Now I have a fetish for Yellow cars, See my Sig, but IMO the skoda yellow is too light, should have been darker like Mitsi Dandelion Yellow or Porka Speed Yellow! Also Yellow seems to have less of a value at trade in time!!!

I've got ESP as well as a few others but I was under the impression that when it was off it was off. To be honest it's always on though so don't ask me what's the difference on and off.

It's saved me once from doing a spell of unscheduled off road so thats reason enough for me to keep it on. :)

Lemon Yellow.. ewwww :P

Are they ;) :P

You won't regret buying one, unless you buy a yellow one of course!! Yellow will for sure knock a whack off your resale price.

As for options I would sat for

Hmmm... That has got me thinking! Maybe I should pick a red one instead. Resale is always important; silver and black aren't my favourites,

since IMO there are too many silver cars of all brands and types these days,

and black somehow makes the vRS styling cues less visible.

Red OK with resale prices?

nowt wrong with red ;)

My local stealer has a used Yellow one in stock and has had it for sale since Easter. They have sold several of the other colours but the Yellow still stays.

I'm not saying Yellow is a bad colour, it's whatever floats your boat but be prepared for it not to be of everyones liking.

I like the Red and also the Silver. People also say that Black is harder to keep clean but I disagree, you see how many have sooty boots, exspecially if they are mapped or running tuning boxes.

Any good pictures of red Fabia vRS' then? I'd like to see if red would suit my taste of style :o

BTW, are the vRS-badged metal sill covers standard on the vRS?

I will post a piccie once I get my red one on Friday :D

They sure are

You'll have to wait longer for a Yellow one to arrive as I'm fairly sure no dealers order them in that colour without a firm sale...

I have Xenons, they came set low which the dealers adjusted a little bit at the first service. I've not been in a Fabia with normal headlamps but when I was out last night in my parents' Golf, I realised how broad the beam of the Fabia's xenons is in comparison.

Reds the way to go ;)

:)

I would say yes to the xenons but I do agree the range is not too good.

ESP? dont have it. Dont want it.

Remaps? All can be detected some way or other.

As good on track as the road? Well. Brakes are very easy to over heat on a good drive. Even easier on track. Also find the suspension too soft for track use. Lots of roll into corners and also diving under braking. All these can be solved.

Bloody hell they're clean!

Red hides the dirt pretty well and isn't common as muck like silver

Yellow's good but costs you about

Agree Cruise is a must. As is heated seats :D

Yeah, I agree. Luckily we get those as standard here in Finland.

ESP would be good for the winter, as the G/F doesn't have my level

of track experience

I'll probably shy out on the yellow; it would have been my first choice

in terms of looks, but resale value is more important. Red is nice too,

as I can see from the piccies here, so no harm done.

Thanks for all your help guys! It's been most useful!
