How to Play Phone Sat Nav Through the Radio System

Featured Replies

Hi All

Forgive me if I am going over a previously covered topic.

I have an Iphone 6 that has a more than adequote sat nav that I would like to use through the stereo. If i choose the Blue tooth menu within the setup I can here the voice commands but I can't through the radio or media. Is there a way that I can get the voice commands to come through whilst listening to the radio?

Thanks

In short no. Not with any system that I know of. I use Tunein app to listen to my radio stations through BT audio, if you then have sat navigation running on your phone it will come thru.

You can play music from the inbuilt music player or spotify etc, and then when a sat nav voice instruction comes through the music volume will be automatically lowered. When the voice instruction has finished the music will return to normal volume.

This works only with Navigon. I tried every free app from App Store but only Navigon stop music from another source. After telling the direction music/radio continues playing.

My TomTom on iPhone 6 works flawlessly, then again it's not free - although it's not that expensive.

Use directions on Google maps. That will dim music when the commands appear v

Does this lower the radio?

Yes

Wouldn't this only work if you were lisitening  to the device, not on the radio?

You can fudge it if you can force the bluetooth audio out to use the headset profile as if it was a mobile phone, not A2DP as if it is streaming music.

Then the audio from the HU will cut as if you had received a phone call. It doesn't work perfectly but is probably the nearest you are going to get unless you stream all your audio from the iPhone.

Sorry chief, I'm not sure what you mean?

The satnav I use will only play when I choose Bluetooth, this will play the music from my phone then cut the music when an announcement for directions comes through. But if I am listening to the radio the notifications will not play over the radio. Thats where I'm stuuck!

Your saying force the bluetooth adio out of the headset?????

I am not sure what you want to achieve is even possible, because when you listen to the radio then BT audio is disabled.

The fudge suggested would route the BT sound in Mono only to the car, with the car believing the satnav announcement is in fact an incoming phone call and completely muting the playing sound source, switching to the phone input and switching back after the announcement. For that, you are most likely going to need a jailbroken iPhone and an app downloaded from Cydia. There are no commercial apps in the apple app store that I am aware of, to reroute the satnav audio.

The same limitation will apply regardless of Android or iPhone, so a change of handset will be of no benefit. The car is the issue, since to save your phone battery BT Audio is disabled when listening to any other audio source.

Nope - don't use A2DP when you pair your device, use HFP BUT you will have to fudge something to get it to do it - I like the PGPSW CamerAlert app as it lets you choose HFP profile as the audio output, so you can interrupt whatever you are listening to with the camera alerts

It is how i said guys. This work with Navigon. It stop Radio or sd card playback, tell you the direction and after that it continue playing Radio or sd.

I dont know if this work with here maps, its been released today but App Store is down and i cant download.

Just found that the App "Waze" works through my stereo. Make sure that the bluetooth is on through the app, connect your phone up to bluetooth through your stereo. Then this will play like a phone call through your stereo everytime there is a direction
