CitiGo Monte Carlo....what a cool little car!

Featured Replies

Not O3 related I know but have one of these as a courtesy car at the moment and have to say I am seriously impressed by it.

I was surprised how well it drives, steering is a little light but suits the car...the engine whilst not particularly powerful and a bit torque light isnt that slow if yourw willing to rev it....and when you do you are treated to that endearing (and rather addictive) 3 cylinder thrum....sounds a little like a puny BM straight six when revved out is rather amusing.

Also it seems to handle quite well and seems pretty chuckable....no notable body roll.

Also it looks quite good, seems well specified for what it is (nice switch gear) and whilst the boot is very shallow in depth and not all that practical you'd get a weeks shopping in there stacked up for sure.

One thing I really like...the steering wheel is basically the flat bottom wheel from the Octavia vRS without the multifunction controls....christ the wheel is a nicer thing to look at and hold than the one in my Elegance!

Dont get me wrong Im not sure id ever consider buying one as its just not practical enough but I'll be only too happy to drive one again if I have to!

....also all Skoda have got to do is drop the 1.0 TSi 100ps motor (talked about for an impending Up GT) or ever better the latest 1.2 TSi 110ps motor into the 3 door and you'd have quite the warm hatchback!

Being an owner of the Sport which is its predecessor I can totally agree with you. It's a fun little car with go kart handling.

Glad you liked it as everybody slates them. It is after all only 60bhp 3 cyl.

That bigger engine would be great [emoji16]

They are chuffin' brilliant (especially in red), rev very eagerly all the way to 6500rpm with a great sound track, and make city driving and roundabouts an absolute hoot!

And yes, the steering wheel in the Monte Carlo is a beauty.

Just stop telling people or they will all want one!   :D

The 75 engine does have a bit more go, but only if you really rag it - it's better on country lanes

I get my hands on my Wife's Citigo 75 when ever I can, she has to slum it in my MKIII Vrs

I had a citygo as a courtesy car too and thought it was a right laugh. Although it was let down by the shocking ASG gearbox. Otherwise I was really quite impressed with it

I had a Citygo courtesy car recently too and can agree about the engie sounding great but, thats where the comparison stops for me, mine must have been the poverty spec.

The manual gearbox is a delight.

...impending Up GT...

'Impending' in VW speak means mañana.

Just a great little car I think. Concur RE the gearbox has a really nice shift quality.

Possibly my only real complaints if I had to be really critical are the shape of the boot (its deep but not particularly practical in shape), I dont much care for the pop out rear windows (could see my kids mucking about with them no end in time) and in terms of the engine I also dont really like how it holds onto revs as you change gear but I guess that is just a characteristic of the 3 cyl lump.

Definitely though if I didnt need a car to eat up lots of miles or something with a lots of load space Id love one and could live with the performance.

I think given how well these lower powered versions drive I do think it will be a travesty if they dont end up making a warm one. I think the 95ps 1.0 TSI from the Polo Bluemotion is a prime candidate and something that would definitely sell.

That said going from the CitiGo back to the Octavia makes you appreciative of the difference....to knock some of the sunshine out of me; having got the car back from the garage clean have noticed some prat has opened a door on my back door and left a ding at some point...nothing too bad and no damage to the paint but annoying all the same.

It would be downright dangerous haha

Seems a bit unlikely...but how about taking the 1.4 TSI ACT engine from the Polo Blue GT? Plenty of oomph and still economical.

Have you seen the citygo-go project build?  If not, then you have 70 odd pages of mentalism to enjoy reading.  400bhp tuned1.8 tsi and...4x4!!!!!

Blimey, I thought they banned car porn  :D  :D  :D

Funny what they get out of little cars. Some years ago when I had an Octy Mk. 2 go in for a warranty job at Crawley Down dealer, they loaned me a Nissan Micra Urbis. I couldn't believe how nice it was to drive! Too small for my regular needs - I don't even know what size engine it had, but really nippy, excellent steering and brakes and a really nice manual gear change.
