Had to reject my rapid today....

Featured Replies

I have a 2014 1.6Tdi Elegance.

I am lucky in a way as its a company bus.  Many issues from new and pretty bad build quality.

Off the top of head it has had new injector seals , a complete wiring loom , stop start sensors and a boost sensor.

I wouldn't buy one with my own money. Just turned 40K miles / 18 Months and rattles and groans a plenty.

  • Hi guys.   I bought a second hand Skoda Rapid from my local dealer a couple of weeks ago. It is a December 2013 1.4 tsi with DSG and I have to say I love it.  OK, it isn't the best built car, it is

I don't have any kind of knocking or noisy gearbox? Mines silent and I have the 6 speed manual Rapid Sport. Sorry to hear you've had to reject your car. :( mines been fantastic to be honest, but I can

There's not many happy ones here.

Mines done 4.5k and its s#!t, god help me when it's done 40k and I bought it with my own money!

Are Skoda going back to their awful cars from the 80s, I guess every generation has to have a s#!t manufacturer, well done Skoda you nearly convinced us you were starting to make good cars. Unfortunately you got greedy and lazy and put profit before quality, again!

Absolutely. They stopped making "quality " cars after the MK2 Octavia. Now they're tinny rattly cheap and nasty and at near VW/Audi prices. Shocking!

@ Nels if you bought with your own money can't you just px it with a better car or do you mean finance?

Sounds like a leaking injector seal to me. Get it fixed & make sure they do an engine flush & oil change afterwards. Otherwise there is a risk of carbonised oil collecting & clogging the oil feed pipes for the turbo.

Thanks Chris - could account for the petrol smell but would that cause an oil leak - is there an oil way in contact with the fuel injectors?  Dealer came back and said it had a defective pipe ? - they're waiting for a part which would be in Sat - possible or is that a cob-off?

Its possible that the fuel smell was as a result of a leaking fuel feed pipe, but what you said about there being oil under the TSI engine cover at the back and in a definite spray pattern up the side is a familiar sign of injector seal failure, which would result in oil and fuel being leaked onto the underside of the engine cover.

It would account also for the fuel smell and all the leak marks you described.

Cars back from the dealer - fault was kinked breather pipe? Anyway 300 mile run yesterday and no sign of a leak!! Total milage now 983, current consumption ave over mixed journeys 42mpg - 53+ on the motorway, definitely getting better as it runs in. Others have said gearbox is noisy - yes a bit, a definite drone, particularly when pulling hard - don't think its a fault with the box suspect the noise insulation isn't as good as on the Octavia I had before with a similar 6 speed box that was almost silent. Do find the 1.2 hard work on the motorway compared to the 2.0TDI Octi, just doesn't have the grunt to deal with the traffic, a 1.4 with a manual box would have been better - we live in hopes - I'll just have to adjust my driving style/expectations of the motor - still most of my driving is short hops these days for which the Rapid is ideal and I guess why I bought it..

For others on here can recommend http://www.superskoda.com/ from the Czech Republic, mud flaps, carpets, sill protectors, boot tray all half the price of eBay let alone Skoda dealers, quick delivery and well packed.

Payment through Paypal so no having to give card details and no stupid charges for currency conversion £ to Euro.

It will get looser and better( performance wise anyway)

I'm on 4100 miles and mines very loose :) and pulling like.....even though it's got stutters/lag/flat spots blah blah. It's a very strangled engine by emissions regs. Very mappable too if you like that sort of thing. Cuts out dead at 6K which is pathetic!

Glad you're all sorted. Enjoy :)

The 1.4tsi seems much better than the 1.2.

Official figures say it's thirstier.  Who knows?  We certainly have one regular on here whose fuelly figure average is 55mpg from a 1.2TSI (and its a 105 I think).

It's difficult to compare since we all drive differently. ;)

I think the 1.4 TSI DSG is about as good a compromise as you can get between performance and MPG. Not to mention the smoothest / laziest drive when you need to just get from A-B

I wouldn't mind getting mine mapped to release the engine a bit more, just don't know much about them! I have the flat spots and stutters you are talking about! Very frustrating.

Mines a 1.2 TSI Sport and I seem to get between 50-55 on my commutes to work and around 42-45 around town. Done just over 15,000 miles now. This is on the display read out so will be less in the real world!

Having had Mk1 & MK2 Octavias, + MK1 Fabia have all been good cars & now a 2014 Yeti nearly rejected it was on 5th & final attempt to sort it took an local independant VAG approved garage to sort ( Skoda sent it there). & it has been fine.

I looked at Rapid before going for Yeti , wanted new Octy III but it wouldn' t fit in garage, was not impressed with overall quality of the Rapid. So glad i got the Yeti.

Good luck getting sorted.

Just completed 1000 miles in my 1.2 TSI (105), half motorway and half short hops around town - actual ave 43mpg (ltrs in vs miles driven, display say 42.3 pretty accurate) - compares well with the 2.0 DTI Octi mk 2 I had before which was doing mid 40's with same driving pattern.

  • 3 months later...

Brought a new Spaceback April 14, have had knocking noise from nearside since new. Reported to dealer at one month check, but couldn't find anything. It has been back seven times having lots of parts changed, but not resolved.

It has been with dealer since beginning of November, and have been waiting two weeks for Skoda UK Technical to look at it. Skoda customer services not much help, have been told I can't reject it because I have had it to long. Is this correct?

I would be grateful of any help and advice from this forum on how to proceed.

I don't understand how skoda have such a famously good relationship with their customers because I was treated like s£!t!!! Skoda are one of the worst car manufacturers I've dealt with. My newish car was fitted with Eibach Springs as an aftermarket upgrade so knocking noises is one thing I haven't had to put up with. Keep going and don't give up Skoda need to realise they aren't just selling to the elderly anymore and people can't be fobbed off.

That's not correct. The dealer only has 3 chances of a fix and they have failed. The law is on your side now so you can reject it under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. The car you bought is not fit for purpose. Keep onto them and also the Financial Ombudsman are excellent for this too.

Please listen to stormchaser Skoda uk are outrageously awful!!!

Thank for replying. Hoping it wouldn't get to rejection but almost another week on and no progress. I assume I write a letter rejecting the car to the dealer and CC Skoda customer services giving seven days for reply ? I have tried to keep on good terms with the dealer and they have supplied a courtesy car whist they have mine, which I assume they will want returning. That leaves me and my family with out a car for the duration of rejection..

Would accept replacement Skoda of some sort as I had two Fabias before the Spaceback which were good. Any more advice welcome.

Mine was nearly one year old when replaced. It wasn't actually rejected in the end, just replaced with a new model of my choice with the negative equity virtually cleared by the finance company (vwfs - small amount) and skoda uk (larger amount). The new car was also discounted a bit and I did have to start a new PCP deal.

If it wasn't for the very helpful business manager at my dealer, I don't think it would of got anywhere as skoda uk were not very helpful towards me on my own.

Get the dealer on your side and make them ring and ring and ring skoda uk and keep on at them until you get the deal you want.

Thanks for replying minibeef. I had a call from customer Skoda UK yesterday, Skoda Technical UK are to visit the dealer and look at my car early next week. I told customer services and the dealer several weeks ago that they should get together and replace the car with one of satisfactory quality rather than me having to reject it. I have not rejected the car yet and will await the outcome of their visit.

Out of interest did you have another Rapid and was it better ?

Hi, yes I had another one. A 2015 spaceback instead of the 2014 hatchback which seems a much better car.. I did spec it up though with sports seats, pedals and steering wheel along with sunset glass, eibach lowering springs, different alloys and extra little things in the boot like nets and side pods. Overall its a well spec'd car now and i think it just makes it feel 'better' if that makes sense.
