Damaged V5

Featured Replies

So today received the V5c for our new car.....

But it's been damaged by the Royal Mail machine by the look of it, and turned up in a bag with an apology

Went to the DVLA site and a replacement is £25

Went to the Post Office website, and they'll compensate up to £20

:-(

But if you change you address they'll send a new one for free, then change it back. ;)

I think the stamp duty alone will be more than £25 though! :-)

Royal Mail is now private, small claims court + costs for time.

Sellotape.

When you sell it the new owner will get a replacement anyway.

As Neily says, I suggest you'tempoarily' move in with a relative, once you have the new v5, 'move' back again.

Royal mail are awful when it comes to lost or damaged stuff.

Just be thankful they don't use yodel! They left a set if BBS basket weaves with new tyres on my drive by the front door because no one was in to sign for them... My wife made sure they paid for that though

I'm deeply in shock!

Just called dvla, spoke to a person who was helpful and he is posting out another document.....

No fuss, no drama.... Who knew dealing with the ministry could involve common sense :-/

I know it's the done thing to slag off the public sector, but there's a lot of them that do a bloody good job.

I've spoken to my local tax office a couple of times and they've always been very helpful over the phone.

I sent a passport renewal off last thursday - got a text message on monday to say they've received it and to expect it in three weeks.
On thursday I got another message to say it was on the way, and it was delivered yesterday.

Arrrh thats the rub you see, you were not Royal Mail's customer you were DVLA's customer, you didn't choose to use Royal Mail, DVLA did hence, DVLA replace without quibble as they hadn't provided their customer with the item they "sold" in good condition. I don't know which law it is but, its common sense really.

I did think that, and they had posted a letter without adequate protection to compensate for the replacement etc

It's something to do with punitive costs and not what they charge..., (out of my depth there)

Wasn't really that I wanted to insult the public sector, just the dread I felt and the thought of queuing through a phone system, to then be passed between 4 staff and then to a supervisor, followed by calls back and forth....

Last dealings were with HMRC because I'd overpaid PAYE by 19k over 5 years, and not paid CIS by the same amount. Took 2 years for them to sort out, with bi-annual bailiffs letters etc.... And ended in me getting a rebate :-/

Was actually surprised that common sense prevailed
